Medicaid doesn't cover abortions except in the case of rape or where it is medically necessary to save the life of the mother. Last year, Akin and Ryan cosponsored a bill to limit that exception to only "forcible rape", or as Akin is calling it now "legitimate rape". Their bill would have forced poor women who are raped to carry the rapist's child to term against their will unless the rapist also beat the victim.

Like it or not, this belief that rape only counts if the rapist also beats the woman has crept back into the mainline Republican platform.

That is a disgusting notion being that you don't beat a woman you rape if you roofie her first. They also use the "forcible" part to segregate it from "statutory" rape with the idea that it would be consentual not forcible... forget the fact that statutory means it's with someone who is too young to enter contract and therefore cannot consent to anything.

If the GOP doesn't purge itself of these backwards social conservative freaks of yesteryear... they will die as a party. Their mouths say "budget, spending, jobs!!!11!!" but their actions scream "ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION!1111!1!!!!"

The fiscal conservatives are being drowned out by the social conservatives and the social conservatives are trying their asses off to convince people that they are one in the same... and they actually couldn't be more different.

There is this unspoken belief among some conservatives that women secrete a fluid that kills sperm during a real 'legitimate' rape, the congressman alluded to this during the interview -- meaning if the rape victim gets pregnant, then she must of consented.

All women produce lubrication in their vagina during consensual sex that can kill sperm. Good thing the male pre-ejacculate contains a neutralizing enzyme.

When the GOP finally embraces science, they still screw it up.

The GOP's platform is extremist. You cannot blame the entire GOP for the words of an idiot like Akin but you can blame Romney and the GOP for their votes, for their platform and for their actions.

Amazingly, just an hour ago, the GOP escalated thing even further. This afternoon they officially added a plank to the platform of the Republican party supporting a constitutional amendment requiring that in all cases, women who become pregnant- regardless of whether it is from so called "legitimate" rape, "fake" rape, or any other way- deliver that baby, even if the mother's life will be lost.

This is what the campaign is about. Are women humans with rights and minds of their own? Or are they merely breeding stock?

This has been the platform of the GOP for ages.

Well that ****ing did it for me. My wife is in for it tonight... I'm breaking out the pilgrim outfits.

I'm tired - someone else needs to do the bill-hunting for me and post the link to the bill's text.

I can't debate a BILL just by criticizing the idiocy that poured out of some buffoons claptrap.

Does the life of an unborn child human with rights of their own?

When do a couple of cells become an "unborn child"? Carry the definition far enough and you could accuse a man of "killing a child" if he pulls out before ejaculation.

The present day anti-abortion extremists rant on and on about "killing babies" - which any rational human is against, the problem comes when we attempt to hold a conversation over the specific point at which a zygote should be considered a baby. The most extreme antis are against the morning after pill claiming that is murder of a child.

For a party that claims to be all for freedom, they certainly seem to be promoting a lot of legislation that takes away the rights of about half the population.

Was watching Maddow last night and they had a funny tagline graphic for the story... "The Men Who Stare at Zygotes." lol
