Devo is a writing a song about Romney's dog

Anyone who under estimates the power of entertainment celebrities in our corporate consumer pop culture is making a very big mistake. John Lennon understood this power, so does Devo.
With that said, Devo is from Ohio, a swing state. Even if they change just a few voters mind's in Ohio, they will be able to say that their efforts were a success.

LMFAO... did you seriously just try to put John Lennon and Devo in the same sentence...

:lamo

that's even more unbelievable than you pretending to be a conservative...

and you do realize that celebs from across the spectrum chime in all the time and it does little impact to voting, right? Kid Rock was fund raising for Romney in Detroit... Ted Nugent, Gene Simmons, et al. have already railed on against Obama... That doesn't exactly make Romney a shoe in for the state of MI in November... (although I'm sure it has a hell of a lot larger impact than anything Devo does)

Yeah, I know. I've read several of your posts.
;)

and you likely formed opinions on them ;)

Why would Ted Nugent have a bigger impact than Devo? That said why would Devo have a bigger impact than the Nuge? Why are the Dixie Chicks evil and Hank Williams Jr. is a victim? Or is it the other way around?

Knowing what I know about Devo, this is not some "shilling for the Dems" thing. They probably just thought it was ridiculously farcical.

I think you are probablly right - this "Romney tying his dog to the car roof" story fits in nicely with Devo's sense for the absurd. Still though it feeds into the larger narrative of Romney being callous and uncaring, just like when he picked on that gay kid in high school and held him down and cut his hair off with scissors. Ever little piece builds into a larger narrative - and this Devo song will be one more descriptive account to add to that.

Was the dog in a dog carrier? If so, unless if freezing out, that's just nothing.

Cher is releasing a song entitled "Can we rich liberals find anything else to talk about EXCEPT the national debt, foreign policy, unemployment, and other issues that actually MATTER in this country?"

Its sure to be a hit.

I didn't know much about the incident until this news, so I think they are accomplishing their goal on some level. I also feel that they are valid as anybody else feel the treatment of the dog was inhumane and wrong.

Yes, and Obama ate a dog, which involved killing the dog. I don't think Romney killed his dog the way Obama did, the dog murderer. Or, at the very least, the beneficiary of a dog murder. And after that poor dog gave its all to provide Obama with nourishment, Obama said "Ewe! That's tough meat." The ingrate.

Obama ate a dog who was killed so that it could be eaten.

Obama the dog killer. It's in Obama's book.

And he cut $711 billion from Medicare, too. The Washington Post said so.

Obama eating dog meat while he pushes grandma off the cliff. Now there's a campaign picture for ya.

I think you guys missed the posts where I said that I don't expect this to impact one's voting decision. I wouldn't expect it to. I would still vote for a person who did such a thing, if I thought they'd be a good president. But I wouldn't defend what they did at the same time. I would just explain that while I strongly disagreed with what they did to their dog and considered it inhumane treatment, that I would still vote for them based on the issues that are important.

If I felt an candidate was inhumane and abusive to all animals that would be different, but I don't see Romney as being cruel to animals.... so whatever, it's not important

I am just voicing the fact that I really disagree with something Romney did. Vote however you want, but nobody is obligated to defend his actions unless you think there is nothing wrong with treating your own dog like that.

Going off the size of the fan bases of Kid Rock, Ted Nugent, and Gene Simmons combined... Devo have a miniscule following... Wasn't suggesting any of them were more relevant than the other, I still feel they're all useless celeb figures... Was just throwing his point off of suggesting Devo could be the reason OH decides the way they do...

If what you know about Devo excludes their constant support for the Democrats, and their organizing a concert fundraiser for Obama in Akron, OH in 2008, that they got other Akron area natives Chrissy Hynde and The Black Keys to play at as well... Then it's a huge oversight not to have included that in your assessment of the situation...

You mean this guy isn't the guy that everyone should look to when deciding who to vote for president?

Whip it good...

Devo actually has a very strong and dedicated cult following, folks who not only worship their art but who also agree with their politics. Devo is as closely identified with their political ideology as any other band in history. They were founded on the concept of satirizing the modern culture's march toward de-evolution and they dedicated their career toward it...

The point being?

Paris Hilton has a large dedicated cult following...
The Jersey Shore cast has a large dedicated cult following...
WWF (or I guess WWE now) has a large dedicated cult following...

So if that was their goal, they've done a rather poor job at preventing it...

Their massive  cult following that "agrees with their politics" are already deep in Obama's back pocket and not a single one of their votes is changed one way or the other based off of this..

Plus, no matter how "dedicated" their supposed cult following is... most people still think they fell off the earth and died decades ago... and didn't care one bit...

Guess what, Silversun Pickups said Romney should stop using their song "Panic Switch" at events... yet another popular rock group who are liberal and took a political stand against a candidate that was Republican... Still not gonna sway votes one way or the other... pointless topic...

Also, another indicator of the priorities of the left, atm... They're all over the place, focusing on trivial crap that means nothing in the long run...

While the Romney/Ryan ticket is focused on fixing the HUGE debt crisis, and eliminate the MASSIVE spending gap that's causing it to skyrocket, before we are no longer between a rock and a hard place, but have been squashed into pieces as the result of a finanial collapse... under the additional spending increases expected with the baby boom retirement...

So yes, keep bringing up Devo, riding in cars with dogs, advisors insulting press agents, etc. It just further illustrate's the left's lack of proper priorities... and an inability to defend the president based off his record...

The group announced on Tuesday that it will be releasing a song later this month called "Don't Roof Rack Me Bro! (Remember Seamus)," as part of an effort to keep in the spotlight one of Romney's more embarrassing anecdotes: during a long-ago family road trip, he kept his Irish setter dog Seamus in a roof rack-attached cage on the top of his car.

An important detail: the dog had diarrhea, which Romney dealth with by hosing down his car and keeping Seamus' fur flowing in the wind.

Casale is also launching a website called RememberSeamus.com, which aims to make 2012 the year where "animals like Seamus are valued and honesty is praised," and voters are given "the dog's honest truth."

Devo Announces Mitt Romney Dog Song, 'Don't Roof Rack Me, Bro! (Remember Seamus)' - Hollywood Reporter

I heard part of the story before, but I never knew the dog had diarrhea. WTF! I already thought the story was bad enough and would fall under animal abuse, but the fact that the dog was sick makes it even worse. Why would they even bring a sick dog on vacation with them?

You would think he could have hired a dog sitter or something, and who wants a dog ****ting on their car?

Also they have a site where they sell Seamus swag...

effin' hilarious.

LOL - I'm sure he's not the only one out there who ever crated a dog on the top of the car.

People only 'care' because it's 'him' - everyone else, apparently, gets a pass.

meh.... its just comedy. Romney opted to tell the story because he thought it was funny. Now, it is... just not how he intended it to be. It's not like this song will amount to a hill of beans in the election. It's just funny IMO.

I think the song idea is funny - more funny is that they talk about is as if it's in progress.
Does a song need *that* much prep time :D

It's already out. I linked to the youtube of it up there in this thread.

If its such a pointless topic and doesnt matter then why have you taken so much of your time to respond to it? If this is just a ploy by those on the left, then arent you falling for it by taking so much time and energy to think about it and comment on it?

SOmetimes little things do matter. Sometimes alot of little things can add up to a few big things.

Devo has actually been very successful at satarizing the corporate consumer culture's devolutionary effects on mankind. How many people would even know the term devolution if it weren't for Devo?

If you honestly want to educate yourself about Devo's influence on our culture I suggest you watch the film The Truth About De-Evolution or even their film with Neil Young: Human Highway or join the Church of the Subgenius.

Actually, I like keeping this thread at the top of the batch, because it shows what pety shallow fools the liberals are, and how distracted they are by trivial things... and that this is the best criticism they can bring against Romney...

There are like 50 trivial threads against Romney, often multiple ones of the same topic... and there are so few "I believe in Obama" posts, because you can't believe in the guy after he's let so many down, and failed to deliver on his "Hope", and "Change" message...

This is the hope and change people asked for? Dirty Politics?!?

P.S. No I'm not interested in Devo... and like most people, to me they're one hit wonders that fell off the face of the earth... It's so funny that they're the saviors of the democrat attack machine now... LMFAO..

Seriously, you should watch the Truth about De-evolution and educate yourself.

Wow! I though Devo was dead!

Hmmm.....wonder if Devo will write a song about Kung Pow Poochie for Obama as well?

They can call it Woking the Dog

My father used to compete on the national Springer field trial circuit. It was common to see that when I was a boy

Was that back in the good old days when the black folk werent allowed to eat in the same resturaunts as whitey?

Just because something was "common" when you were a young un, doesn't mean it was a good thing. We also didnt have seat belt laws back then or mandatory auto insurance and children's car seats or strict DUI law regulation...
