Biden Says Republicans Will Put People Back In Chains [W: 84]

It wasn't racist, but he was certainly referring to his African-American audience's history. Much ado about nothing, in my opinion.

Only because Biden is a liberal Democrat

We both know if the shoe was on the Republican foot the MSM and the Obama Campaign would be trying to find a genetic link between Romney and Hitler

Of course not. But it still resonates.

No, I don't get it. If we can't refer to someone's race without it being racist?? We're in a sorry state indeed. Blacks have a history. Slavery is part of that history. Referring to it is not, in and of itself, racist; and neither was Biden's remark.

Maggie, what Biden said may not have been racist, but saying that Romney would "put y'all back in chains" was race card politics at it's finest.

It was a poor choice of words that I don't believe were intended to purposefully allude to slavery but definitely should've been thought over and phrased differently.

That said, if this was a Republican instead of Biden, I have no doubt we'd have people shouting out "CODE LANGUAGE!" and how its CLEARLY racist.

Being from Virginia, I enjoyed this gaffe line more though:

“With you, we can win North Carolina again, and if we do, we win the election!”

You mean like how some on the right are calling what Biden said Racist now? Agreed

It was definitely pulling the race card, but wasn't a racist comment.

Yeah I liked that one as well :) Politicians sure can say some dumb things.

I really, really enjoy Biden's gaffs and missteps. I still think his "big stick" comment was the best from a comedy standpoint, but this one is pretty high up there for tacky factor. Bad choice of words, to be sure.

Not racist, but I'd say racially insensitive.

Actually...unless I'm missing it...I don't see anyone on the right calling Biden a racist or saying it was a racist statement. I see people say he was trying to pull the race card, but maybe I'm missing something. Quote it for me?

yep
biden blew his own dog whistle
republicans should be quite familiar with the practice by now

Oh, there it is. "Yeah, he did it...but it doesn't matter 'cause they do it too."

Dumb argument is dumb.

nicely crafted strawman
never said it doesn't matter
it does
it was ill advised
just as ill advised for biden as when the republicans repeatedly do it
or was i not supposed to express the observation that this is a reprehensible republican practice inappropriately adopted by biden

You could just focus on Biden, who is the topic of the thread.

to the exclusion of similarly reprehensible republican behavior
can't imagine why you would want the pointing out the use of the republican dog whistle silenced [/s]
so, show me the TOS provisions which indicate i am so obligated to refrain from identifying republican propaganda practices and i will oblige
otherwise, you post your way and i will continue to post using my own methodology, which will include pointing out these republican propaganda practices

Maybe it's because we've covered the "republican dog whistles" an astoundingly high number of times already, and this thread isn't about them.

Yet his black audience were never in chains.

I'd argue they have been enslaved by the policies of the dem party but you are correct

I don't think it was racist. I do think it was useless political hyperbole from Biden.

He used the word chains and the repubs used the word shackles. The game goes on. Can't wait until November. I'm getting weary!

there is nothing inappropriate in discussing how biden inappropriately adopted the republican dog whistle strategy

"They gonna put y'all back in chains." Adopting a southen accent while speaking to a half black audience in one of the blackest cities in Virginia. Definitely playing the race card.

Obama is the most racist president since Andrew Jackson.

The reason Biden feels free to say such things is because Obama also is one of the weakest presidents this country has ever had.

yes, i am certain that the first black president is going to have as his running mate someone as racist as the person who force marched the Cherokee nation along the trail of tears [/s]

Read more carefully. I said Andrew Jackson more a racist and I was referring to Obama, not Biden. Biden is just an old kook always trying to find shocker lines for attention.

Ok....go on...

No, you did not say "more". When one says "most since", you could be saying they are the same.....but let see how you got to that point.
Biden is just an old kook always trying to find shocker lines for attention.
It is ironic that you say this....wow.

Looking in from the outside since I'm not a natural born American I understood his statement to mean chained by Wall Street. Yes, poor choice of words on Biden's part but those reading racism into this comment seem to be stretching it here.

black audience

So Joe Biden thinks Romney will put people back in chains. What kind of chains? What does he mean by "put you back in chains?"

Who has been in chains? The only people I can think of who has been in chains were slaves. So is this old Joe playing the race card?
I'm sure those on the left will here vehemently defend his words. :popcorn2:

Joe Biden to supporters: Mitt Romney will

I think we've all come to expect this sort of thing from Joe Biden. He's like a helmet wearing moron that everyone laughs at, not laughs with.

You mean there is nothing inappropriate in discussing how biden inappropriately adopted the liberals phony "republican dog whistle strategy" they manufactured to avoid discussing Obama's total failure as president.
