I am really happy with Romney's choice for VP. I think this summarizes it well:

Paul Ryan is fresh, young, energetic, smart, courageous, and ready for prime time.

Paul Ryan is a policy wonk AND a front-line warrior whose budget and long-term entitlement reforms have the entire Dem-Soros-lapdog media machine unhinged.

Paul Ryan is ready to fight false media narratives.

Paul Ryan is battle-tested against the White House.

Paul Ryan won’t cut and run when the going gets tough.

I hope you're right.

I think he has the experience and backbone to do some great things. Of course the Democrats are going to do everything they can to attack him and negatively spin his ideas to reform and save Medicare and other things, but no matter who was the Republican VP candidate they would try to destroy anyway. Romney is on offense with a bold choice like Ryan. And that is a good thing.

Yeah, he sure is a guy who gets things done...

"He's been in Congress for nearly 13 years, but Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has only seen two of his bills pass into law during that time.

Ryan, who Mitt Romney has tapped as his running mate, passed a bill into law in July 2000 that renames a post office in his district. Thanks to Ryan, the post office on 1818 Milton Ave. in Janesville, Wis., is now known as "Les Aspin Post Office Building."

The other time Ryan saw one of his bills become law was in December 2008, with legislation to change the way arrows (as in bows and arrows) are hit with an excise tax. Specifically, his bill amended the Internal Revenue Code to impose a 39-cent tax per arrow shaft, instead of a 12.4 percent tax on the sales price. The bill also "includes points suitable for use with arrows in the 11 percent excise tax on arrow parts and accessories."

Kevin Seifert, Ryan's congressional spokesman, did not respond to a request for comment."

And in January 2010, Ryan pro-actively and boldly unveiled his “Roadmap for America’s Future,” a proposal to eliminate the federal deficit, reform the tax code, and preserve entitlements for future generations.

I wouldn't be puttin' that in all capital letters, if I were you. Our President had only two years experience in the Illinois State Legislature.

I talked to several other Democratic strategists today and everybody agrees that the selection of Ryan is something they would not change if they could.

And just how many years would it take to eliminate that federal debt in his "plan"?

Ryan is not a “fiscal conservative.” A fiscal conservative pays for the government he wants. Ryan never has. His early “Roadmap for America’s Future” didn’t balance the budget until the 2060s and added $60 trillion to the national debt. Ryan’s revised plan, passed by the House in 2011, wouldn’t reach balance until the 2030s while adding $14 trillion in debt. It adds $6 trillion in debt over the next decade alone — yet Republicans had the chutzpah to say they wouldn’t raise the debt limit!

What the Democrat strategists say about the choice of Ryan for VP is pretty much irrelevant, this is not about them. Romney and Ryan are on the offense, and moving forward strongly and effectively.

What does that have to do with the fact that we payed this guy for 13yrs and only two of his bills were passed into law? And did you see the bills?

omg democrat strategists saying the only way for republicans to win is to appeal to democrats who would only vote for democrats anyways, its like saying the only way to stop a cut from bleeding is to saw your leg off,the sense is not there.

It is exactly what the Obama was hoping for.

I agree with the character assessment of Paul Ryan.

He is a sharp, well spoken, policy guy, who has been way in front of the game as far as elected officials in Washington demanding cuts to the government and revisions to the mandatory spending programs in order to eliminate the deficit and pay down the debt... He is a good family man, with a strong head on his shoulders...

However, pertaining to the election...

I'm not sure about the pick

It does send the strong message that this is what the campaign is about... not foreign policy, not socially divisive issues... This campaign is about the out of control finances of the us government and getting the economy moving again...

However, Paul Ryan does not necessarily add any geographic pull for Romney. Key states to push will be FL, NJ, PA, MI... I'm not sure what pull Ryan has in any of those states...

He does represent a fresh face, that is outside of the politics as usual crowd. He has already taken several key stands... blaming both parties for the spending trouble... going out of his way to defeat fellow Republican Congressmen's plans because they increase spending... and taking the budget problem by the horns...

However, he doesn't have world's full of experience, and represents the same thing we have all criticized Obama for, no experience creating or managing a business.

He does represent what Mitt Romney does as a leader, and that is not to pay attention to the popular reception of his actions, but to go directly to the details of the matter to find out the best person to hire...

Ryan should definitely be able to outdebate Biden, especially on policy, since Biden is always about glowing generalities, and is hot tempered when challenged on being wrong, and Ryan is a sharp, quick-witted policy guy, who will know the ins and outs of how Biden is wrong, and how to articulate them...

Personally, it's not who I would've picked. I would've gone with someone who has been outside of Washington for some time, and someone who has experience in some form of foreign policy/defense... Lately, the person I've been focused on is Giuliani, whose popularity among wealthy jewish NYers who retired to FL could likely have had some swing in the polls in FL... and who could likely have had the same effect in NJ, NY, and CT... with the support of Christie and Lieberman together... Giuliani is tough as nails on security, law, and is still admired for his handling of the 9/11 tragedy, and helping NY overcome it... He, too could outdebate Joe Biden... I know it would've angered social conservatives, but it would've had a lot of play with the more important middle ground voters...

Now, with Ryan... this election can't be about picking off one state or two here and there... this now has to be a total drive to win nationally by 5 points or so, and drive the momentum so that you can pick up a whole slew of states... IDK if that can be done... Romney will need FL or MI, WI, and NH... or WI, PA, and NJ... and still have to hold onto NC and VA... this is a harder task now with Ryan on board... There's enough time for Ryan to shine in the debates, and Romney to own Obama during the debates...

But, as an ardent Mitt Romney supporter... I'm on the fence with this pick... It's an excellent hire for a policy guy... not the best for the election process boost... We will have to see how it's recieved in general... Ryan is definitely a likeable guy...

Romney had to move from the gutter campaign that the Obama campaign needs and fits the needs of the media, something to talk about with no thought required.

So I think from that view it is a winner for now. Then we get to the conventions and the debates where the election will be won or lost.

Actually, it is indeed relevant as they will be the ones loading and aiming the gun at the Romney/Ryan target.

You are confusing deficit spending with the debt.

the deficit is annual... the debt is cumulative over the years. One contributes to the next.

There is no confusion.

While Ryan would not have been my first pick, he seems like he will be fine. I am not sure about your geographical concerns. He should be able to connect with people in the Midwest, so Ohio which is key as well as PA outside Philly could be in play ans Wisc., maybe?

Giuliani is an interesting name, had not thought about him.

I talked to several other Democratic strategists today and everybody agrees that the selection of Ryan is something they would not change if they could.

Yeah dem strategists are going to say that they are upset that Romney is going to beat them

I don't put any stock into what Dem strategists say

It is exactly what the Obama was hoping for.

LOL-there are many things that are uncertain at this point

one thing that I am certain of

you have no clue what Obama is hoping for other than making more money from public office and getting re-elected

omg democrat strategists saying the only way for republicans to win is to appeal to democrats who would only vote for democrats anyways, its like saying the only way to stop a cut from bleeding is to saw your leg off,the sense is not there.

Where do you come up with this nonsense? Do you just make it up as you go along? Nobody said that he needed to appeal to Democrats. You just invented that out of your own imagination.

Democratic strategists love the pick because we had feared it would be Rubio. That would have given Mittens Florida and an inroad into the growing demographic of Hispanics. He blew that opportunity.

He just lost lots of independents in places like Florida which he needs to win in the fall.

Mittens now needs to
1- learn the ins and outs of the Ryan plan
2- be able to defend it
3- explain to the American people why middle class people should be willing to sacrifice their life style so that the rich can have even more

Good luck to Mittens on that.

That is why we are happy with this.

Yeah dem strategists are going to say that they are upset that Romney is going to beat them

Of course you don't. There names are not Faris & Luntz.

I told everyone here for many months now that the pick that would help Mittens the most was Rubio. Many in the business agreed. That is on record. And you gave me some LIKES for those comments so apparently you felt the same way.

Now all the sudden you spurn the idea you had previously endorsed.

Thats funny.

You responded to this:

"And in January 2010, Ryan pro-actively and boldly unveiled his “Roadmap for America’s Future,” a proposal to eliminate the federal deficit, reform the tax code, and preserve entitlements for future generations."

By talking about the debt. Eliminating the deficit is an attainable goal, paying off the debt is another story (although eliminating deficit spending is the first step).

I talked to several other Democratic strategists today and everybody agrees that the selection of Ryan is something they would not change if they could.
I am sure that is true. Since the entirety of democratic strategy is demonization, deceit and demagoguery, Ryan is the perfect choice. Too bad it wont work this time.

if major league republican strategists were complaining then I would care. when obama toadies who are paid to help obama get elected (Democratic strategists) say something we all know that all they will say is stuff designed to help their lord and master
