Milquetoast Mitt - Mark Steyn - National Review Online

...another four years of the present statist ascendancy will seal America’s fate. As noted here previously, the International Monetary Fund predicts that China will become the world’s dominant economic power by 2016. So the guy elected in November will be the first president since Grover Cleveland to know what it feels like to be the global also-ran. Even this, however, understates the size of catastrophe the United States faces. There are no precedents in history for a great power spending itself to death on the scale America is doing. Obama has added $5 trillion to the national debt, and has nothing to show for it. Do you know how difficult that is to do? Personal debt per citizen is currently about 50 grand, but at least you got a La-Z-Boy recliner and a gas-fired barbecue out of it. Obama has spent America’s future, and left no more trace than if he and his high-school “choom gang” had wheeled a barrow of 5 trillion in large notes behind the gym and used them for rolling paper.

Where did the money go? It went to Obama's friends. They put it in their pockets and deposited it in banks that won't lend anyone money. They sent it to Obama as a campaign contribution. They used it to make anti-war movies that no one will watch. They lent it to the Treasury at 2% interest. It went toward the pension funds of meter maids in California who make nearly $100,000 a year. It went down a rat hole trying and failing to start yet another green energy company. It was used to increase the salaries of federal workers. And on and on and on.

The survival of the United States is at stake, it's as close to a war between good and evil as any in living memory, and you'd think Romney is running for Mayor of Pasadena or something. He needs to start talking like the stakes are as high as they are.

This thread won't go well.

I love Mark Steyn's writing.

Very well said!
