What SHOULD be done

D

dal

I'm not a fan of either party. I believe they are ALL bought and paid for by the same people.

Numerous polls show that a vast majority of people think we are on the wrong track. What do you think we should do? My thoughts:

1. 5 year energy plan to bury Middle East dependency using a combination of natural gas, nuclear and the development of green energy development, similar to the space race. Conversion of vehicles to natural and/or liquid gas. Emphasize letting them live in the 5th century if that is their desire. Let ‘em pound sand.
2. Jobs, jobs, jobs! Come up with a plan and name someone BIG to implement it.
3. Government reduction plan: 5% across-the-board spending cuts, consolidation of agencies and departments, tax reform (revolution).
4. Name potential cabinet appointees (Ron Paul, Colin Powell, Elizabeth Warren {or her clone} etc.
5. Name VP candidate.
6. National defense, not offense. Drastic cut-backs such as getting out of places we’ve been since WW II (Japan, Germany etc.).
7. Bring home National Guard troops for use on the border where they belong, not overseas. They are called the National Guard for a reason!
8. Enunciate an immigration policy consisting of border security, employer punishment and expanded quotas where necessary.
9. Encourage citizenship of educated foreign individuals and entrepreneurs.
10. Education reform and someone to run it. Massive change based on getting education to educate to the coming economy, not the economy of the last century. Public education built this country. The greatest thing this country offers is twelve years of free education. It’s up to the local level to get control of the public schools.
11. Welfare reform: drug testing, report for work at 9:00 AM 5 days a week to perform public service or just to report and be sent back home. Require SOMETHING in return.
12. Campaign finance reform: full disclosure of ALL donors within 24 hours of receipt.
13. Campaign reform: no political advertising until all parties have concluded their conventions.
14. Term limits for all federal elective offices and a lifetime ban on becoming a paid lobbyist after term ends.
15. Congress meets in full quarterly. All other time is spent in their home districts with meetings done over the net by teleconferencing etc unless a national emergency is declared. This will keep them closer to their constituents and make it more difficult for lobbyists to access them.

This is just a beginning list. What can you add to it?

ooooohh..... a Jobs Plan!!! :doh Why haven't we thought of that before?!?

Our current energy plan is just fine, as long as we have a president willing to defend our oil fields in the middle east.

None of this is worth a damn as a summary list. Anyone and everyone has come up with lists of what we should do. That's the easy part.

Our current energy plan is just fine, as long as we have a president willing to defend our oil fields in the middle east.

When we run out of oil, what then? Even if you deny the existence of Global Climate Change, you can't deny that we're running out of fossil fuels.

So you're essentially giving us a hyper idealized plan with zero real world economic solutions?

When we run out of oil, what then? Even if you deny the existence of Global Climate Change, you can't deny that we're running out of fossil fuels.

Natural gas and fracking have potentially doubled the reserves. Call it 150 years. If we cant get some alternatives by then, I dunno.

A lot of the list is nothing new and some might even be unconstitutional, but it's always valuable to be reminded of what our priorities are. I think the only problems with such lists are that people often don't realize that a lot on that list is already being done, but these things don't happen overnight. Or the government has the big idea right, but the details all wrong(such as the President's energy and jobs policies).

I like 12, 13 and 14 a lot. We have become so corrupt that it's ridiculous.

Corruption, IMO, is one of the least well understood issues in politics, which is why no solutions ever work except the most obvious ones done a long time ago, such as making bribery a crime.

the source of our corruption isn't too much speech or too much access to our representatives. Although they have reasons for wanting to make you think that's the problem. They would like to be unaccountable and not have to raise money from lots of small donors. If you ban a lot of advertising and control access to them, then incumbents can pretty much stop worrying about their job security.

Conversion of vehicles to natural and/or liquid gas. Emphasize letting them live in the 5th century if that is their desire. Let ‘em pound sand.
I agree 100% Drill it, frack it, rip it out of the ground if need be. It is STUPID not to. Sure we can continue to develop alternate fuels, but to think we can just deny the country of fossil fuels is naive, at best.
2. Jobs, jobs, jobs! Come up with a plan and name someone BIG to implement it.
Government does not create jobs. They can only nurture (or in the case of the Jerk-in-Chief...hinder) the economy to entice the job market to improve.
3. Government reduction plan: 5% across-the-board spending cuts, consolidation of agencies and departments, tax reform (revolution).
Why only 5%? I'd make it 10% + the dissolution of select agencies (education).
10. Education reform and someone to run it. Massive change based on getting education to educate to the coming economy, not the economy of the last century. Public education built this country. The greatest thing this country offers is twelve years of free education. It’s up to the local level to get control of the public schools.
Public education is the biggest form of child abuse this country has right now. Government meddling is the reason.
11. Welfare reform: drug testing, report for work at 9:00 AM 5 days a week to perform public service or just to report and be sent back home. Require SOMETHING in return.
Absolutely. Make each unemployed person work a minimum of 5 hours of community service for every UI check they get. Let's see how long those butts stay on the couch THEN.
14. Term limits for all federal elective offices and a lifetime ban on becoming a paid lobbyist after term ends.
I'd be more for zero earmarks, and all bills up for vote must be no fewer than 100 pages. If you can't get a bill in under 100 pages, then break it up and force a vote on the pieces.
15. Congress meets in full quarterly. All other time is spent in their home districts with meetings done over the net by teleconferencing etc unless a national emergency is declared. This will keep them closer to their constituents and make it more difficult for lobbyists to access them.
Listen you peasant. You can NOT be dictating how our dear rulers act. Get back in your little hut and STFU or get to waxing one of their Escalades, while they brainwash you about how (other) rich people are hurting you.

I would also add that presidential candidates can be sued for slander/libel. Perhaps if this were the case, we wouldn't be bombarded with these "my opponent hates you and eats babies" advertisements.

Our current energy plan is just fine, as long as we have a president willing to defend our oil fields in the middle east.

That is too costly. Going after the oil in the gulf has cost AMericans trillions of dollars, plus thousands of US soldiers lives and 100,000 Iraqi lives, our moral high ground in the world and a thriving economy.

Solar, wind, hydro, bio energy are all in large supply and we have the capacity to harness it. The only reason we dont is because the corporate energy companies will lose money in doing so.

Our current energy plan is just fine, as long as we have a president willing to defend our oil fields in the middle east.

I didn't realize the US owned oil fields on foreign soil. No wonder they hate us!

Why no mention of health care? Median family income around 50K while actual cost of health care is 20K+. In a world of reducing employer provided medical insurance, no average family can afford 40% of income for health care. Republicans want to kill "Obama-care" but what then?

If a family can't afford health care, then the nation can't afford healthcare. The only way to provide everyone with health care is to redistribute health care resources more evenly, which means more for those currently without insurance and less for those currently with insurance.

ooooohh..... a Jobs Plan!!! :doh Why haven't we thought of that before?!?

Because abortion bills seems to take a vast precedence over jobs bills?

Everything you enumerated here is exactly what Democrat/Republican parties propagandize for. But you know, you're not a "fan of either party".

Both parties set these goals you enumerated, they know ahead of time will be opposed and never pass as laws, or made irrelevant before even being signed into law; to keep you guys voting.

1. There are no alternatives, they already know that.

2. "Jobs, jobs, jobs!" means absolutely nothing, they already know that.

3. 5% would never be agreed to by either party, and even if it were done, it's way too little too late.

4. Ron Paul, controlled opposition. Colin Powell, we already did the black thing. Elizabeth Warren, who?

5. Name VP candidate?

6. The controlled opposition owns the Libertarian/Green parties, as an emotional pressure release valve. Don't take it too seriously.

7, 8, 9 what use is it to kick out 10 million illegals and then invite in 20 million guest workers and 20 million legal immigrants.

10. Sure we can all be lawyers and doctors, and overcharge and double bill each other till we're blue in the face.

11. No jobs available means no jobs available.

12, 13 McCain?

14. Term limits won't solve anything.

15. what?

US Oil companies own oil fields on foreign soil - these same oil companies own 99% of Congress...

Then US Oil companies can hire their own mercenaries to defend their oil fields or they can petition the local government for protection.

Converting to electric cars is only solution to cut oil use about 40%. And even then we will not be independant. Look at EIA numbers on oil use.
And even then we would not be independent.

There is plenty of HC. So no reason to scare the rich on HC.

Key thing is to eliminate MONEY, from HC.

And the way t o do that is UHC. Ban insurance.
Dr's on salary.

Negative income tax? Isn't that just benefits?

That gets you part of the way there, but no nation has yet found a way to provide health care for all at a price the nation can afford without limiting access to some extent.
