In an utterly shocking and despicable display of over the top ignorance and bigotry, Mitt Romney announced to the world that the reason Palestine is poorer than Israel is that the Palestinians are culturally inferior. He did not consider that perhaps the occupation, the checkpoints, the shelling or the land seizures might be a factor. Nope, just that Muslims are inferior to Jews.

Honestly, I'm stunned. I have always thought that Romney was naive and immoral on the economic side, but I held out hope that he was above the whole bigotry thing, but these comments really leave no wiggle room. He has outed himself as a full on bigot.

LOL. I read the link twice. There's not a word in there about Muslims being inferior to Jews. Was he speaking in code again? Or was it dog whistle language this time?

Er, what cultures do you think he was referring to?

Well the OP doesn't realize that Palestinian does not equal Muslim..... Palestinians are a group of people that are predominantly Arab, that live(d) in the land of Palestine.

But anyways. I see Romneys comments as ignorant, offensive, and idiotic.

No, of course I realize that. But the culture Romney is referring to is Muslims IMO.

But, regardless, it is equally offensive either way.

Wow, certainly entered the silly season.

I can't speak as to the accuracy of these quotes. They could be a complete fabrication. However, see what you think....

TOTAL: 129 ONE HUNDRED TWENTY NINE

Purposes:
The Jews are not promoting brain washing the children in military training camps, teaching them how to blow themselves up and cause maximum deaths of Jews and other non Muslims.

The Jews don't hijack planes, nor kill athletes at the Olympics.
The Jews don't traffic slaves, nor have leaders calling for Jihad and death to all the Infidels.

Perhaps the world's Muslims should consider investing more in standard education and less in blaming the Jews for all their problems.

Regardless:
Regardless of your feelings about the crisis between Israel and the Palestinians and Arab neighbors, even if you believe there is more culpability on Israel's part, the following two sentences really say it all:

If the Muslim Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence.

If the Jews put down their weapons today, there would be no more Israel.

islam derived from judaism ,this ignorant isnt aware of this... also his belief is very similiar to islam..but ignorant is always ignorant whether he stands for election or not..

I can't speak as to the accuracy of these quotes. They could be a complete fabrication. However, see what you think....

So you're on board with Romney on this? Jews are superior to Muslims in your book? Overt bigotry doesn't bother you?

No, of course I realize that. But the culture Romney is referring to is Muslims IMO.

But, regardless, it is equally offensive either way.

Uhhhh.... You know that how?
No where does he say "Muslim". He says Palestinian and mentions the PA several times. But nothing about Islam or Muslims.

He is referring specifically to Palestinians.

Yeah, it's technically true that he was talking specifically about Palestine and didn't say Muslims in general. But IMO it's pretty clear that that is the overwhelmingly dominant cultural difference between Palestine and Israel, right?

From the linked article:

The economic disparity between the Israelis and the Palestinians is actually much greater than Romney stated. Israel had a per capita gross domestic product of about $31,000 in 2011, while the West Bank and Gaza had a per capita GDP of just over $1,500, according to the World Bank.

Romney, seated next to billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson at the head of the table, told donors that he had read books and relied on his own business experience to understand why the difference in economic disparity between countries is so great.

His comparison of the two economies did not take into account the stifling effect the Israeli occupation has had on the Palestinian economy in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem -- areas Israel captured in 1967 where the Palestinians hope to establish a state.

In the West Bank, Palestinians have only limited self-rule. Israel controls all border crossings in and out of the territory, and continues to restrict Palestinian trade and movement. Israel annexed east Jerusalem in 1967, but has invested much less heavily there than in Jewish west Jerusalem.

And although Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005, it continues to control access and has enforced a crippling border blockade since the Islamic militant Hamas seized the territory in 2007.

The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have said the Palestinian economy can only grow if Israel lifts those restrictions.

"It's Israeli occupiers and Palestinians under occupation, and that's why Palestinians cannot realize their potential," Erekat said.

Gotta give Rmoney credit - he's batting .1000 for insulting countries while on his foreign relations tour (England and now Palistine).

Did you miss my opening sentence?
I can't speak as to the accuracy of these quotes. They could be a complete fabrication. However, see what you think....

Overt bigotry? C'mon, please. Overt bigotry is mistreatment of an individual on the basais of their heritage or sexuality. Who do you think has been mistreated here?

All I did was post a list that appears to indicate that Jews have made greater societal contributions than Muslims. That doesn't make every jew a good guy or every muslim a bad guy. I'm no fan of Romney but I'll assume that he was being complimentary to the people he was speaking to. Should he have complimented the muslims and demeaned the jews instead?

So you're on board with Romney on this? Jews are superior to Muslims in your book? Overt bigotry doesn't bother you?

He is referring specifically to Palestinians.

Do you think that makes it better somehow?

Regardless, aren't the Muslim/Jewish distinction the overwhelmingly dominant cultural difference between Israel and Palestine? I think it is a bit far fetched to think that he believes that the Palestinian culture is inferior, but other Muslim nations are "superior" culturally... Historically, Palestinians have actually been some of the most successful Muslim peoples economically.

I did not claim it made it better. I simply think it is important to be accurate. Condemn Romney for his comments about Palestinians, he made those. Don't try and claim he made them about Muslims, he didn't.

And yes, this continues Romney's bumble tour. Obama has to be sitting back and enjoying this tour of Romney's. Obama can do nothing and look better than Romney. With Michelle Obama at the Olympics and being a good interview and supporting the US athletes, July is ending strong for Obama.

Does anybody have the full transcript of his statements?

Stay tuned for tomorrow. There was his comments in Britain (not to mention the un-named advisor). Now there's this. Whatever he meant to say on either occasion, this trip has been a bad one for doozies.

I can't wait to see what he says in Poland....

I can see it now! Romney: I heard this joke on the flight over...how many Polacks does it take...

To assume that Romney is referring to all Muslims when he says "Palastinians" is as ignorant as thinking someone is referring to all Christians when they say "Americans"...

I can see it now! Romney: I heard this joke on the flight over...how many Polacks does it take...

He'll tell the one about the Polish space program's expedition to the Sun.

"Won't you burn up?"

"We thought of that! We'll go at night."

Not just culturally but there was a reference to the Divine.

This should be no surprise to us, Truman is supposed to have said the Palestinians didn't have near the voting block. Romney just laid it as bare as most other Presidents have. We back the Israelis, we court the Jewish vote stateside. Some American Jews are afraid Obama will start demanding Israel start honoring the West Bank pull outs, or at least start limiting the settlements there.

Nothing would turn the traditional Jewish alliance with the liberal wing faster than an end to the 'see no evil' doctrine when it comes to Israel.

Romney knows this, he isn't culturally tone deaf, he just is singing, a bit off-key I'll grant you, to the only audience that matters in an election year...

oh at 25,000 USD a plate thankuverymuch.

I am confused. How does he see evidence of Israel being culturally superior other than being financially better off than Palestine? Is this Romney's supposed economic brilliance speaking???

If either side wants to engage in a game of cultural inferiority and superiority, then it's going to lead to racism, bigotry, and serious issues. Both cultures should be respected, and neither should be labeled superior to the other. It sounds like the kid of stuff Bin Laden used to spout off about.... And what's really ironic is that, Romney, acting like a foreign ambassador, accomplished to show a foreign culture massive disrespect. I was always taught to respect other cultures, learn about them, and respect international differences... holy crap.
