He certainly didn't do that on his own.
People having different talent sets does not mean they are smarter. My father would have failed miserably at running a business, it was not his talent. However, his talents where still considerable and varied, and he was never content with what he could do, and always worked hard to improve his abilities. He went from wire and relays to computers and fiberoptics.

Your comment does not address my own, and for the record, there where roads before there where cars.

And how would you know when all hugely successful businesses exist in the framework of a strong country? I don't see any weak or 3rd world countries with powerful multinational companies, do you?

He would fix things from a simple cable cut to errors in a huge room full of equipment. Later he would troubleshoot computers as part of his work. Do you think he worked less hard than the CEO of Bell or AT&T? Was he not as smart?
No I do not think he worked less. But the work he did was paid a certain amount, if income was his sole concern he might have chosen another career but perhaps enjoyed the challenge of what he was doing.

On a similar note, I worked at major corporations and probably averaged 60 hours per week for 40 years. If I had a more risk taking mindset could have probably gone out and been a consultant and make a few times what I earned. But I liked the idea of having a check every week and security that goes along with it. So there were times I would say, I could be that guy making X, then remember that I was more comfortable with the situation I had.

The first country that comes to mind is China. It's mostly classified as 2nd world, and it has some of the most powerful multinational companies in the world. You know San Francisco outsourced the building of the new San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge to China. And I would suggest all the liberals hate China for kicking our ass in manufacturing.

I proved my point, government is reactionary to the needs of business development, government does not produce a sewer system waiting for someone to crap in it a hundred yrs latter or never.

    Re: Finally, Fact-Checking Romney’s Lie

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business. you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet. The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.
we all stand on the shoulders of giants. even when you start from square one, there's physical infrastructure, collective knowledge, and a societal structure that you benefit from. if you apply individual initiative into that framework, you have a chance of success. in this way, both individual initiative and the framework of society are essential for our success as a nation.

    Re: Finally, Fact-Checking Romney’s Lie

It would seem that the majority of politicians bend the truth. I went to factcheck.org. Amazing, even President Obama people don't put out clean adds.

    FactCheck.org : Obama’s ‘Outsourcer’ Overreach

It would seem it is what American politics has evolved into. I for one am turned away by negative adds and mud slinging. I am more interested in substance. What are they going to do if elected and how to they propose to do it. And being skeptical, even then I am not sure how much truth the statement would hold.

Just to confirm for the righties who can't see through this scummy Romney lie, That = Bridges.

    Got it?
considering you don't care when politicians lie so long as you approve of the policy motivating the lie, you shouldn't really be the one starting this thread.

it makes you look like a hypocrite. but then, I guess people get comfortable in all kinds of skin when they wear it long enough.
