Democrats apply legislative pressure on Mitt Romney to release more tax returns

Thank you, Democrats! Thank you!!!

This just goes to show how scared the Dems are of losing their asses, come November.

no way in hell would that pass constitutional muster. That idiot needs laughed out of office.

Well the US Constitution does not say a lot of things. It says little about transparency. But that does not mean that it is unconstitutional...

Its an issue. Always has been always will be. Especially when it comes to taxation etc. Thats the whole issue.

I could very easily see it as unconstitutional, congress has no right to force disclosure of private documents just because hes running for office. Political expediency and transparency aside congress has no right to mandate things beyond the constitutional requirements imo. They can hammer him for it politically, but to pass a law seems like political targeting to me. Not to mention a law we dont really need---presidential finances go into a blind trust when they assume office.

Which is not law, it is done by choice to avoid charges of influence.

Hung by your own petard.

If the law gets some legs and passes it should be for all elected federal office. I want to see the last 10 years of Pelosi or Reid's returns. AND I want to see their state returns too.

Add congress into the requirement and there's not a hope in hell of it passing.

There is nothing in the Constitution that allows requiring that as a condition.

I demand a law that requires all presidential candidates to have an unbiased 3rd party company measure and release data regarding penis length or labia thickness. We simply must know everything about these candidates! It's the only way!

at this point I dont even think Michelle Obama bringing shoulders back and "amazing " fashion sense can save team Soros..

Its over... Obamabots must be coming unglued..

and I want to see Obamas Passport... and transcripts..

Yet mittens said that “he's looking at how previous presidential candidates have handled releasing their tax returns* “.DUH...look at your fathers 12 years of returns before his 1968 campaign.:2wave:

If you ask me, they should release all their tax returns for scrutiny if they expect to lead the free world. Why would we settle for anything less?

I know the mitt camp doesn't want to hear it, but it's important to me if the man running for the top spot bet against American investors in the past. It matters to me if he has some shady deals that we can't quite pin down. I want the man in the top spot to be a die hard patriot to the point of fault. Not one who gives us lip service after a lifetime of making money by any means necessary.

The only reasons I can think of to oppose this are partisan based on the current situation.

Financial background should be a pretty big deal when running for office.
Esepcially about taxes.

in that regard, college transcripts should also be a pretty big deal for any high level job, including running for office. I certainly find it more acceptable to request then their personal financial history.

And I mention it because the left refuses to apply any pressure on Obama producing his full college transcripts.

Hey far-righties, do these names sound familiar??

yes, they're all people, and organizations, that you would simply dismiss on any other occasion...

Ofcourse all this speculation maybe off base and Romney is innocent but WHY IS HE STILL HIDING IT THEN? It's going to be a long 4 months for Mitters.

Because you can simply dismiss such speculation, and there is absolutely no political benefit to being a super rich person, who's tax burden is likely laughable, atm?

A silly thing to legislate, though its obvious the fear on this is on the Republican side. They know they are damned if the do (Mitt certainly does not want to reveal he believes so much in America that all his money is out of the country and how much he made betting agains the American people in credit default swaps) and damned if they don't (people will just believe he is hiding these things). And, of course, if he takes too much time releasing his returns he gets to look untrustworthy (what's he hiding?) AND weak (really, why didn't you just do that in the first place?).

Good luck with this one Regressives. This is a winner for the Dems no matter how you slice it. Its probably time to name Pawlenty your VP so you can buy some cover.

You should acknowledge sooner rather than later that Mitt Romney WILL NOT be releasing his tax returns. He has nothing to gain politically by doing so. The whiners on the left are of no consequence to him and his election prospects. He knows that you and your cohorts will cry and moan and groan no matter what he does. He also knows that you will be voting for Barack Obama. So, seriously, get over yourselves. It's not going to happen. To your collective disgust, we know. Get over it.

Why in the hell would he ingratiate a segment of the population who will not be voting for him in the first place?? You folks really don't get it do you? You can scream and holler until you're blue in the face, but at the end of the day what did you get? An "Obama/Biden 2012" bumper sticker and no tax returns. Preaching to the choir is ignorant. But carry on!

Read my lips: no new tax returns.

sounds familiar

I will not raise taxes on anybody making less then 250k a year, but out of the other side of my face I will argue to the supreme court that the mandate is legal because it is simply a tax, even on those making less then 250k a year.

Has anyone asked RINO Romney what he thinks about this? Has anyone asked him if he disagrees with his father - that it should be madatory for all candidates running for POTUS to display their last TWELVE years of tax returns? Does RINO Romney disagree with his father on this? If so, then why???
