Who's lying about Presidential Tax Returns traditions?

Gov. Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary, reported 36 percent more income in 1990 than in 1989, according to copies of their Federal tax return made available by his Presidential campaign organization.

The 1990 return, provided to The Associated Press, is the most recent available from the Clinton family; a campaign spokeswoman said the 1991 return had not yet been filed.

The 1990 return reports gross income of $268,646, up from $197,651 the previous year. After adjustments, deductions and exemptions, taxable income for the family in 1990 was $179,020, on which the Clintons paid taxes of $50,932, the return shows.

Presidential candidates over the past 30 years have released their tax returns for varying time ranges. In the recent era, the trend has been toward greater disclosure.

When then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) was running for president in 2008, he and his wife, Michelle, released seven years of tax returns spanning from 2000 to 2006.

President George W. Bush released federal tax returns for years between 2000 and 2007 and made public his 1997, 1998 and 1999 tax returns during his 2000 campaign against Al Gore.

President Bill Clinton released 10 years of tax returns in July of 1990 while serving as governor of Arkansas. He released his 1990 and 1991 returns in April of 1992, ahead of the presidential general election.

In the 2004 presidential campaign, Kerry released tax forms covering years 1999 through 2003.

Clinton made public his tax returns covering the years 1983 to 1989 during his 1990 gubernatorial campaign, and aides to his presidential bid initially said he had recently made public his 1990 returns as well. But the officials later acknowledged that was a mistake. Aides at his campaign headquarters in Little Rock were still trying to assemble those records Saturday night.

But that’s hardly in keeping with the precedent set by nominees of both parties during the past two decades:

n In 1990, then-Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton made public 10 years of federal tax returns in preparation for his 1992 run for the White House. He followed up in April of that year by releasing 1990 and 1991.

n George W. Bush released his tax returns for the years 1997, 1998 and 1999 while mounting his 2000 bid against Democrat Al Gore. He would go on make public his tax filings between 2000 and 2007 while serving as the nation’s 43rd president.

Yeah, I mentioned in another thread that the Tax History cite doesn't seem to be complete. In fact Kerry released 20 years of tax returns, plus one year of his wife's tax returns (they filed separately).
