John McCain's full opposition dossier on Mitt Romney

Some of it is interesting information, some of it is just stuff specific to a McCain/Romney ticket, and other stuff is just junk.

All in all very interesting document, and even with 200 pages of potential problems, why didn't they pick him over Palin?

Seem like the vetted the hell out of Romney. 23 years of tax returns.

Why didn't they do the same for Palin? She was a train wreck.

Gosh, we should start a thread reliving the Clinton-Obama contest too.

Trust me, if some one got their hands on Clinton's file about Obama from the last primary, it would be here in a heartbeat.

That is a good point, but they did keep the campaign relatively civil between both of them. I am sure Obama had a lot on Clinton too.

Re: 2008 Oppo File from McCain Campaign on Romney

How do you know this is even real? Seems to me that anyone could have written this about romney and then claimed it to be from the vetting done by mcain.

lol, you mean besides the accusations of racism?

At the time people where talking about how nasty it was and damaging to Obama. Limbaugh was trying to get republicans to vote Hillary in primaries to extend things thinking it would help McCain.

Seriously, it was the primary season that gave rise to the birther phenomina ending with a Hillary supporter getting fellow Hilldawg supporter Philip Berg to try and get an injunction to stop the Democratic National Convention through legal action, in part due to what the woman stated was "daily misogynistic hate speech against Hillary".

Is there any reason we ought to leap to conspiracy to explain this dossier?

I wonder if snopes or politifact has any info. I think I'll check it out.

About as much reason that we ought ot leap to conspiracy to explain Romney's tax returns....but that doesn't seem to be holding people up.

The realistic thing to do with this dossier is to weight it on its own merits with reasonable skeptisicism but not outright rejection without some actual investigation into the matter. Ultimately, the majority of what is stated reveals pretty much what we've known about Romney since 2008.....that he had a lot of views at one point that would bother conservatives and has since came out in reverse of those views.

McCain picked a female...to grab hold of the anger at the democrat party by all the hillary supporters who felt she was mistreated and was overlooked for VP...he thought he could harness those votes by choosing a woman...

Yes I agree, voters are shallow and stupid.

well, he has a point. Has it been verified as authentic, in any way? Seems silly to simply accept it as authentic when there are various vested interests trying to politically tear each other down

i have no idea, but i just don't understand why someone who is a republican and worked on a presidential campaign would come out with negative information about romney before this election.

seems more likely to me that someone who is an obama supporter could have written this and put it out there to hurt romney.

Because, despite what the RNC wants from its rank-and-file, some Republicans take their individualist creed seriously. Not all Republicans agree with Romney's policies; some feel as johhny_rebson does in another thread:

Mitt Romney is a good candidate.....if you are looking for someone who as governor of Massachusetts raised taxes, signed anti-gun legislation, and created RomneyCare.

Towards that end they'd rather Romney lose now if it meant a "more conservative" nominee won the Presidency in 2016.

Others feel that Romney isn't a good candidate, and that he'd have to take a fall to re-position the Party.

There are quite a few reasons for this to come out, actually.

Nobody back then really attacked him Bain, but if they did, maybe he'd be handling Obama's attacks better right now.

what? Gingrich and Perry both went after Bain. Gingrich had a mini-series on "vulture capitalism".

I really don't see someone working on the McCain campaign sinking another gop candidate due to political purity. The guy had huge credibility issues with the base

Wow.. This is interesting. How did you find it? It is sure to be serious statements.
