Mitt Romney: Venezuela’s Chavez is “Threat to National Security”

Oh, so the people of Venezuela chose to do that?

Yes.
Chavez ran on the policy of nationalization. What he do? Get elected. Then bam nationalized the industries. Wonder why Chavez has a heavy 16 point lead in the current election cycle?

Chavez, the supporter of FARC a threat to anyone? Couldn't be.

And there's that little issue of Columbia's drug route through Venezuela.

Hey, but other than that, I'm sure Chavez is a great guy. Just ask Castro.

Trial of 'The Turk', one of the world's top drug lords, threatens to expose Chavez regime's involvement in cocaine trafficking - Telegraph

The Chavez "support of Farc" is anything but...
"The documents' evidence of Venezuelan support for the Farc was so weak that Organisation of American States secretary general José Miguel Insulza told the US House subcommittee on western hemispheric affairs just a month later thatthere was "no evidence" of such support or collusion."
"Even more damning for the Colombian military's case were statements last year by General Douglas Fraser, head of the US Southern Command, in response to questions from Senator John McCain, regarding the alleged Venezuela-Farc connection, and the laptop "revelations": "We have not seen any connections specifically that I can verify that there has been a direct government-to-terrorist connection," Fraser stated, adding, "I am skeptical." (Fraser recanted his testimony the following day, following a meeting with the top state department official for Latin America, Arturo Valenzuela. But Fraser, as the US military's leader for activities in South America, is in a much better position to know.)"

"Look at what has happened and is happening in Latin America, reflect on this (FARC-EP), we are done with war... enough with all this death"-Chavez on FARC
""The guerrilla war is history...At this moment in Latin America, an armed guerrilla movement is out of place"-Chavez on FARC

indeed. just ask anyone on the opposing networks in venezuela.

oh.... wait.....
Which ones?
Venevisión - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Anti Chavez...
Televen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Considered pretty neutral
Globovisión - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Took a prominent place in the coup.... Now under investigation

I'm sure the Cubans and North Koreans will be thrilled to learn that they are free.
Cuba is a threat to the US? Havent they been wanting to cooperate and end the blockade for about 30 odd years now?
North Korea is a superpower? They cant even feed their own people for crying out loud.

The Cold War being over doesn't mean that foreign policy ceases.
What? Block democracy? That is a "US policy"? Invade countries that choose their own path?

Chavez is an enemy of the United States because he chooses to be an enemy of the United States.
By nationalization? And being a socialist? How scary!

He needs a foil for ALBA, and so we are it. This also secures him a major source of support in the form of China, which isn't to be sneezed at.
So its all about China?

Sure. They just don't have the right to have other countries not object when they do things those countries find objectionable.
Im sure he doesnt care that people object. But then when you support a CIA backed coup against him, im sure any elected president would be object to that and speak out against that.

I really hope these people saying we should take some military action against Venezuela are being ironic or sarcastic. If not WTF is the matter with you people. What right do we have to go around bombing countries if we don't like how they live? Moreover, do you know any of the history of U.S involvement in South America believe me it's not a story of sugar, spice and everything nice? Ever hear of Pinochet? My goodness enough with killing people because they don't think like you. Being friendly with Iran is a reason to be attacked? Lookup "Operation Ajax" or better yet read the book "All the Shah's men" then maybe you will see Iran differently. Time and time again we go an mettle in other countries politics and end up with this huge mess... STOP IT we have plenty of our own problems without going around creating more.

Afghanistan are you kidding me? Did you read anything about 9/11 other than Bush speeches? They didn't attack us because we have titty bars they attacked us because of our military presence in certain countries and foreign policy in the middle east.

The hard right need an ever-renewable set of scapegoats in order to maintain the neo-cons' Trotskyist 'continuous revolution', i.e. permanent military engagement. Only by ensuring that the US is on a constant war footing can domestic problems be placed in a subordinate position in the list of national priorities.

I haven't yet heard anyone mention what concrete threat to US interests is being posed by Venezuela. Making friends with China? Well Hell, isn't the US quite keen on doing that too?
