"In fact, numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that the economy lost about 3.5 million jobs between July 2008 and Obama's inauguration in January 2009. Romney can complain all he wants about Obama blaming former president George W. Bush's failed policies for the hemorrhaging of jobs when he took office, but the facts speak for themselves. A May 2012 Center on Budget & Policy Priorities report found that private employers added 4.2 million jobs in the last 26 months, an average of 163,000 jobs a month.

So contrary to what Republicans are saying, Obama's policies are working. And if it weren't for the obstructionists in Congress, his jobs record would be even better."

I think that all that matters is what voters say in November.

Regardless of the outcome it won't change the facts.

Isn't it comforting to know Government hacks kept their jobs while you lost yours and had to pay for it to boot.

You'd rather pay them not to work?

Re: Obama's job creation policies are working

Obama's policies are not only working, they are booming. We have never seen this many jobs! Now you won't hear that from the GOP smear campaign, but the facts are clear. The mood of the country has never been this optomistic about the future.

I would rather pay for a restructering. I would gladly pay for the unemployment so that I would have a opportunity to rehire and rebuild my organization cheaper and more efficiently. It would cost less in the long run to the tax payers.

Essentially, I would restructure to get more bang for my buck.

Any reason they left out the 3.8 million jobs lost between January 2009 and March 2010? Was that because those damn obstructionists in Congress at the time can't be bothered?

Re: Obama's job creation policies are working

We know his policy kept Government workers unemployment under 5% for all but a month or two of the whole crash and up to today.

Table A-14. Unemployed persons by industry and class of worker, not seasonally adjusted

What was the unemployment rate among government workers when Obama started? How do you figure they kept their jobs when the public sector lost over 600,000 jobs under Obama?

Where are you getting your figures from? I haven't seen any federal figures since 2010, which show a jump of 80,000 since 2008(240,000 including military).

The supposed magic number is 150k---that is the amount to keep unemployment from growing due to new people entering the workforce. Now I have to wonder, after the workforce participation dropped so much how is 13k job creation per month considered successful?

Obama?s Magic Number May Be 150,000 Jobs Per Month - NYTimes.com
Since this article, last months job creation was 69000, which is drastically under the 150k amount that is needed to sustain growth.

Before anyone mentions all the retirees, if that were true and the economy were improving, the jobs those retirees vacated would be seeing job growth from people replacing those jobs. They arent---so get a new talking point.

They're from the BLS and are not limited to federal jobs but also include state and local public sector jobs.

"When the government released its monthly unemployment report last Friday, Republicans couldn't wait to pounce on the fact that the economy created only 69,000 jobs last month, the fewest in nearly a year, and the unemployment rate rose from 8.1 percent to 8.2"

Your own site proves we are falling backwards now. There was a brief era when it looked like we might pull out of this recession and added jos but you have to average in that mini recovery to get your bogus numbers. The fact is lately we are falling off a cliff and job creation does not even keep up with new workers entering the job market and unemployment is ticking up. The site and you attempt to spin this number, you both fail miserably.

A liberal editorial righter in a liberal state states his OPINIONS on what we should interprite statistics to mean while making large assumptions as if they're fact. Yes, this truly has convinced me.

Gotta love people who think that things that do nothing but preach to the choir is actually going to impact...well...anyone other than the choir.

Sure would. The average unemployment pays about 1/3 to 1/2 of what they were making with out the pension and health benefits burden. They draw their salaries directly from the treasuries of what ever government level they work for (Federal, State, County or City)

Seems like Obama just added approximately 800K to the work rolls with his new illegal immigrant policy. I wonder if the BLS will take this into account in the June unemployment statistics.

this number of additions to the workforce should add .5-.6 % to the unemployment number. Who wants to bet this doesn't get into the calculations until after the elections.

Also since these people now get work permits what does that do to Americans, especially those at the bottom rung where unemployment is greatest.

I guess Obama will deal with that when he gets to the next wedge issue, else he thinks he will get 95% of the minority vote no what how much he sh**s on them.

Its an opinion piece. Nothing in it actually shows that the policies are the reason for private sector job growth. It is just the writers opinion that this is the case.
