Romney addresses Baptist Liberty University grads

Yep, that's right. The Mormon addressed Baptists and did a good job of it too.

    Excerpt from the speech:

“Culture — what you believe, what you value, how you live — matters,” Romney told graduates gathered in the football stadium on Liberty University’s campus in the Virginia mountains. “The American culture promotes personal responsibility, the dignity of work, the value of education, the merit of service, devotion to a purpose greater than self, and at the foundation, the preeminence of the family.”

Romney is sounding more and more like the person we want in the White House.

You know, I don't necessarily disagree with you, but we have to be cautious and discerning about who Romney really is. He is a Mormon and a Mormon has values and principles that are similar to Christian values and principles, but doctrinally, the Mormon religion is NOT a Christian religion. “We're Christians just like you!” | Mormonism Research Ministry He can speak wherever he wants, but we just need to keep our eyes and ears open to what he says and be sure to separate the truth from the falsehood. As long as he stays conservative and lives up to principles and values that I live by, I'll be glad to have him in the White House.

Romney was the governor of MA, and to my knowledge his religion was never an issue. If that is the case why would you think it would be if he became president. Unless there are issues in MA that I'm not aware of.

That's the problem. He SOUNDS like... You know he is only saying the things to win your vote. You know he is full of it, but I guess that doesn't matter.

Sounds like just rhetoric to me. As in the words are empty because they are nothing specific, tell me what that specifically translates into in terms of things like actions and policies and then we'll talk. I'll give you an extreme example: both the Taliban and Romney would say "devotion to a purpose greater than self" is important, but what they specifically mean by that is what separates the two.

I'm sort of OK with Romney and living in Mormonville, I'm pretty much OK with the way they operate (other than the proselytizing but what the heck).

    But when I hear
“The American culture promotes personal responsibility, the dignity of work, the value of education, the merit of service, devotion to a purpose greater than self, and at the foundation, the preeminence of the family.”
it sounds exactly like BOMFOG. Frankly, we are drowning in BOMFOG and we could use more definition and clarity. Unfortunately, you can't get elected by, say, having a specific plan about anything.

Just FYI, here is the latest Intrade percentages. These aren't polls or political talk, these are cold cash bets.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to win the 5 June 2012 recall election

Event: Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to win the 5 June 2012 recall...90%

Barack Obama to be re-elected President in 2012

Event: 2012 Presidential Election Winner (Individual)...52%

Mitt Romney to be elected President in 2012

Event: 2012 Presidential Election Winner (Individual)...41%
Anything I post here is just my opinion. If you don't agree, please present your own vision instead of personal attacks. Thus you will demonstrate your maturity and wisdom.

“Men and women of every faith, and good people with none at all, sincerely strive to do right and lead a purpose-driven life,”
This is why Romney won the nomination. He recognizes (either by cold calculation or honest belief) that American has many different religious groups and that the President has to represent all of them. Its certainly a far cry from Gingrich openly demonizing atheists.

He's working hard to make sure that his faith isn't going to be attacked and become a boat anchor wrapped around his neck. It's also why he immediatly jumped to Obama's defense when that superpac ad was made trying to dredge up the whole Rev. Wright stuff. He knows with regards to religion, politically he is living in a glass house and he doesn't want to throw that stone.
