Boy this ishas to be really encouraging to Romney and devastating to Hussein Obama.....After the Republicans tore each other apart in the primaries you would think Obama would be way ahead in the polls.

A new POLITICO/George Washington University Battleground Poll finds a dead heat in the presidential race six months before the election.
Mitt Romney edged out President Barack Obama 48 percent to 47 percent among likely voters, a number well within the margin of error, as Republicans rapidly consolidate behind the likely GOP nominee.

who is 'hussein obama'?

who is 'hussein obama'?

He's the guy Navy likes to oh-so-casually insert as similar to the former Iraqi leader. He will even giggle about it once in a while if you stick around.

Anyhow, yes, it will be close, but Obama has an advantage. Furthermore, a poll 6 months out still has to contend with a great many further developments, which include both Conventions and news regarding the economy and the wars.

That being said, I'm pulling for team Romney.

Navy, why do you put so much stock into polls that have Romney either ahead or even with Obama when Romney hasn't even picked a VP candidate?

It's silly for both sides to pretend this matters right noiw because it is constantly changing each week.

I'll pay more attention to polls in general when Romney picks a VP and they start having debates.

It'll be another close one. I'm voting for Romney (at least now), but it's hard to call either way right now.

There are a lot of people out there like you.....Moderates or Centrists independents who might have voted for Hussein Obama in 2008 and realize now what a terrible mistake it was......If the Republicans nominated a true Conservative they would not vote for him but being a moderate against a far left candidate he is exactly what they want..........These are the people who Romney will get to beat Obama.......

Not in the least. I would expect national polls to be something around a 50/50 split with some noise.

I hope you do vote for him..........I don't know how there could be any doubt between these 2 men though......

i hope you all realize these polls are really pointless until october, early november because everything can change between then and now.

Too bad that doesn't also include the candidates.

I get a kick how you lefties Poo Poo this poll because it scares the **** out of you.........There is a long way to go but no way after that bitter campaign should it be so close...........

Really? Or is that an assumption you're making in order to try to present your point as stronger than it actually is? Perchance the latter is well more likely.

50/50 + noise.

Just heard this report on the local evening news. I was surprised with this from your link: The former Massachusetts governor has opened up a 10-point lead, 48 percent to 38 percent, among independents in a poll conducted Sunday, April 29 through Thursday, May 3

I'm actually surprized that Romney isn't doing better. Obama hasn't even started campaigning for himself much and hasn't really started campaigning against Willard. Once the American public sees that Romney isn't the "moderate" that the GOP and Willard himself are going to try to portray, I think people will be even less inclined to vote for him. The American people don't want an Etch-a-sketch candidate that they can't trust. Romney is a major flip-flopper that makes Kerry look like a rod of stability. No one knows where Willard stands on any of the issues, truly...and America is going to have to look long and hard at whether they can trust him...and I think once Obama starts campaigning, the answer will clearly be no.

And a poll like that would be pointless the day before election day

We have an Electoral College. What counts is how the people in a limited # of "battleground states" vote, not how many NYers votes for Obama compared to how many Texans vote for Romney

But there are suggestions that these numbers are extremely fluid

That seems to be the biggest understatement of the entire article. I would wait until Romney has at least locked up the nomination before making too many assumptions.

Disclaimer: This doesn't mean I don't think Romney is the likely nominee, just hoping he won't be. :)

To those who plan to hold their noses and vote for either Obama or Romney:

You never cease to crack me up DD....How you can try and make anything good out of this for Hussein Obama is incredible..........

Better than the 3rd party voter has, actually. I don't whine incessantly.

Why? Romney has been campaigning for months....and people STILL don't like him. Wait until the Obama campaign kicks into gear. Like I said....how do you think America is going to trust a flip flopper on the level of Romney? You think Kerry was a flip-flopper? He pales in comparison to Romney. This campaign is going to be fun.
