I know it's kind of old news that he said this, but if it's true, then who will Mitt go with? Not who do you want him to pick, but who is willing and qualified... on the shortlist so to speak?

thx

Marco Rubio: I Will Say No If Offered VP Slot

No one likes to play on a losing team. Moreover, Rubio was not a very good option for Romney. Though he might have helped with Florida, he is fundamentally a insult to the general Hispanic vote as he is a "white man's" Hispanic (yes, he speaks Spanish, but he is Cuban. He has NOTHING else in common with Mexicans or those from Central America)

The Regressives should be thrilled that Rubio is shrewd enough to recognize the problem and not let Romney naively stumble into a trap (though I think Mitt, as clueless as he appears, isn't that clueless).

He needs a conservative governor from the southern half of the nation. McDonnell of Virginia and Brewer of Arizona would be excellent picks.

I think where he needs help with is women. A conservative woman like sarah palin would be a good choice.

He needs an evangelical, black, hispanic, woman from the deep south.

I have heard people say that Romney is like the sacrificial lamb to lose in 2008... Kerry lost to Bush, but his VP was successful for a long time. I am not sure how the GOPs record is in treating their losing VP candidates. Palin is toast, Cheny never had a chance and isn't popular or liked, and Quayle, well people say he is just kind of idiot.

What is going on with the GOP's tradition of picking VPs? None of them have a career later, so are they viewing the nomination like a curse?

I wonder if there is something else going, on as well, like the base acceptable candidates don't want to run by Romney's side because the base doesn't like him.

A conservative woman OTHER THAN Palin would be a good choice. Palin would be a complete disaster for the GOP, which is why that would never happen.

She was entertaining though

It's not the GOP. There's not much chance of Biden running . Cheney represented the new VP slot -- you don't want the up and coming star, you want someone who's not afraid to get his hands dirty, and someone who's not a threat of being a distraction in 4 years. The person that takes the slot, especially in today's climate, doesn't want to be on the losing side if they have any designs on the top job someday. The fact that the GOP is already talking about Rubio '16 tells you that he's not the the VP --- they want him to be the guy if they lose this year.

Could very well be Brewer. She did sign that anti-immigration bill, so that should help Mitt with the TP, and gives some geographic balance. No one's talking about Ron Paul or Mitch McConnell, but they both have pluses. Both are Southerners, neither has anything to lose. McConnell's been around a while, and certainly isn't afraid to sling some partisan mud around. Paul brings the Libertarians on board.

She would help him with the TP but that's it...

bachman, angle, and o' donell are also good choices.

Sarah Palin locks in his defeat. That would be a grand choice if you want him to lose and lose badly.

Romney should look for someone who will not overshadow him intellectually. Hmmmm nevermind he would have to go it alone if that's the case.

What would lead you to believe that Romney isn't intelligent? Cum Laude at Harvard Law and Harvard business not impressive enough for you?

He is not very good at relating information and not much of a speaker. I am not impressed with those items and many people with a less impressive record will overshadow him as the candidate. If fact only Ron Paul would not overshadow him as a public speaker IMO.

You questioned his intelligence, not his speaking ability. There are incredibly intelligent individuals who don't have a good grasp on public speaking, one trait is not necessarily indicative of the other.

Romney needs someone who does not exist in the GOP...a conservative Hispanic woman, that has a history of standing up for minoriity rights, and makes younger folk quiver.

Pretty much every thing the GOP has managed to alienate.

Yet, both would be wonderful....oh....wait.

That would be our President.

A conservative GOP woman? Really? Talk about endangered species. I bet there are more virgins in Hollywood.
