Poll: Condi Rice tops GOP VP list [W:132]

Boy she is a very interesting pick and would bring a lot to the ticket.

Poll: Condi Rice tops GOP VP list - Darius Dixon - POLITICO.com

Condoleezza Rice tops the vice presidential wish list among Republicans and right-leaning independents, according to the poll Wednesday. Twenty-six percent of those polled backed the former national security adviser and secretary of state under George W. Bush as Romney’s No. 2. (Rice has repeatedly said she’s not interested in the job.)

What is there on Condoleezza Rice's "resume" that qualifies her to be a vice president, other than being resurrected to serve as a "token black" and a "token woman" front for a Republican Party that has little credibility with with either blacks or women?

Is someone whose background is largely limited to serving as a longtime political advisor and a cabinet member for GWB is now trying to trying to rewrite history and portray that experience as a political asset?

One strategy of the Obama Campaign will be to portray Mitt Romney as the "second coming" of GWB - choosing Rice as his vice president will help solidify that link!

Is Romney so desperate that someone who served as a longtime political advisor and a cabinet member in the Bush Administration is now being resurrected as a political asset!

That's a stupid way of seeing it. Dick Cheney was a former cabinet member and influential person in the campaign when he became the Vice Presidential nominee.

It all depends on the reputation of the president in whose administration your vice presidecial nominee served!

GWB left office in 2009 as one of the most unpopular presidents in American history - and as a longtime political advisor and member of his cabinet, Condoleezza Rice is forever linked with that "failed" presidency.

The last thing Mitt Romney wants is to be linked with GWB and the failed policies of the Bush Administration BUT if he appoints Rice as his vice president, he assumes that "baggage."

Does romney choose a far right candidate or a more moderate?....He needs to keep in mind that now its a national election a more moderate candidate would help him more than a far right one...IMHO.

Yeah... cause Rice did a real bang-up job advising Bush as to foreign affairs.

No he doesn't.... there are far more independent middle-of-the-road voters than fringe right voters... You appeal to much to the fringe you lose the middle-of-the-road voters to the other guy plus get the other guy's fringe out in defense and then lose the election. Appealing to fringe is exactly how to keep from being elected: just look at the 2010 senate elections in Delaware, Colorado, Nevada and Alaska.

If you need to appeal to the moderate/centrist/spineless weasel crowd to win an election, then you don't deserve to be in power to begin with.

You seem to forget the female monarchs, many of whom quite skilled and insightful, and just as protective of power as the men.

No. I simply understand that they were the EXCEPTIONS rather than the rule. How many of them would have come to power if their parents (or they) had produced a male heir? Very few of them. There is a reason that there has not been a single Matriarchal society (where the NORM is women in charge, not the exception) in the Western World in the last millenium... human society was not meant to work that way.

No I do not see Obama as a token he was running against a women Hilary Clinton and they were running for the top of the ticket. The top of the ticket is totally different and there was no incumbent to run against. I view the selection of a VP to help the ticket gain votes in critical states. Biden was picked because of foreign policy experience. But really added few votes Obama didn't already have. Palin I believe and I think many others do as well, was picked as a fresh face, her gender and her very conservative views. Rice would be picked for the foreign policy experience and gender. She would make a good candidate at the top. She is a liability because she is stronger than Romney has shown himself to be. She won't pick up any votes in places where Romney needs them and those are blue states. Her gender may help bring out a few more women in the red states but Romney will win those easily anyway. I believe she is for choice. She is also seen as someone from the Bush administration. Those could all be liabilities. Though she would be a good choice in this election she adds little to change the vote totals in the states where Romney needs help. There are better candidates to help in this way. The only reason I see for picking her is gender because the Republicans are not doing well with women voters.
Not once anywhere have I said she was not intelligent and a strong candidate. I have said she is not going to help the ticket as much as Republicans would hope. I can see no other reason to pick her other than the fact she is a woman. And they would hope she would swing some woman voters their way.

Not bad, you might expand on what states he needs help in and why Condi doesn't get him there.

condi rice has gravity and a presence. She is competent, effective, and would be a credit to any ticket/administration.
