I wouldn't think that. DC is a tiny island surrounded by states with weak gun laws. As I mentioned above, it simply demonstrates that, in order to be effective, gun control laws have to be implemented at the national level.

You started junking up the thread with the typical effete left wing condescending attitude towards gun owners and then started howling when we called you on your attitude. Millions of people own guns for self defense and the number of people who whine about that have been declining

So, let me get this straight, in order to keep criminals from being criminals, we, the law abiding citizens, should give up our rights, yes? And that make sense to you?

You should have rephrased that:

"Is a gun the only way you can commit murder?"

His reasoning is flawed because he posts murder rates with an assumption that if someone is murdered, they were killed by a gun. This reasoning is, of course, flawed.

The problem is that you're not looking at it in any more "rational" a manner than you think we are. You have this "sugar plum fairy" view of things that claims you can simply avoid any sizeable chance of being a victim of a crime by staying out of certain neighborhoods. It really doesn't work that way. Crime happens everywhere, and the one woman raped in your neighborhood each year is still one woman too many so far as many of us are concerned.

There are VERY FEW gun owners who ever want to have to use their firearms against another human being. Though I'm sure you probably don't believe that. It's my constant hope that I will carry a gun for another 40-50 years without ever needing to draw it for self-defense. The difference between us is that if Fate decides that on some certain night in the future my girlfriend and/or I are going to be the victims of a crime, I will be ready to deal with the situation. Will you? I would tend to believe probably not.

If it simply ended there, that would be fine. You would have made your own bed and have to lay in it. The problem (as I see it) is that every time one of these worthless wastes of flesh and oxygen invade a home, commit a burglary, or do a mugging and don't get shot (or at least threatened with being shot) they grow bolder and more confident that they can victimize whomever they please with impunity. That means there's a greater likelihood that some day they ARE going to run into someone like me and I'm going to be forced to kill them because you did nothing to stop them, and the legal system didn't do anything either.
