When running for the GOP ticket, in the initial stages when several competitors are present, gay bashing is very important, because it is one of GOP voters' top concerns (in addition to Muslim and Latino bashing).

However, now that romney's biggest competitor has left, will romney have to dispense with the "gay marriage will destroy the whole country" rhetoric? After all, he needs all votes to win, not just the bigoted (rightwing) ones.

Or should he stay consistent to keep his right wing base happy?

He may have to throw in some small measures of supporting the anti-gay vote like Bush did, knowing that for the most part he will have little impact one way or another. Most of the state amendments were rather redundant in terms of what was currently on the books.

There will probably be a little lip service. "I personally believe marriage is.." etc etc. Then the cop out answer: "I believe in letting the states/people decide." That way people can interpret it however they like.

It's quite ironic that the only way for Ronmey to win is to be more like Obama. :lamo
