Forbes magazine editor and former presidential candidate Steve Forbes tells Newsmax that Mitt Romney will win the GOP presidential nomination and defeat President Obama in the November election.

But he warns that an Obama victory — perhaps even the anticipation of an Obama win — will lead to a market selloff and another recession.

Forbes is president and CEO of Forbes Inc. He ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 1996 and 2000, urging the adoption of a flat income tax with a single tax rate. He makes frequent appearances on the Fox News Channel.

Forbes originally endorsed Rick Perry for the Republican presidential nomination. But with victories in three primaries on Tuesday, Mitt Romney appears to have the nomination sewn up.

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV, Forbes was asked if he has any reservations about now supporting Romney.

“No, I’ll support whoever the nominee is and it looks like he is going to be the nominee,” he says.

“I thought his victory speech [Tuesday night] was very different from the ones he gave before. He didn’t use the pronoun ‘I’ as he tended to do. He was dressed with a necktie instead of the open shirt collar. That’s fine during the day but at night you should dress up for the occasion of addressing the nation. And he gave a speech where he went into much more substance than he has before.

“One of the things about the primary process is it does make you a better candidate, and I think he is light years ahead of where he was three or four months ago.

They're right... and I can easily see why a socialist wouldn't notice how that works... If his economic stimilus was based off government subsidies, guess what happens when those subsidies stop? The economy stops... So he'd either have to keep giving subsidies (that we can't afford to give), or stop giving them and watch the economy go back to where it was...

That just isnt true...
It boosts the economy and helps out the industry to get back where they were...

Ehhh not so much..

Its interesting that some on the left spend so much time claiming Obama isn't an incremental socialist or has socialist leanings yet self identified socialists tend to be his biggest cheerleaders

He isnt socialist. It would be more socialist to expect the rich to give back with the extra money they save from taxes!

It's interesting that some on the right spend so much time claiming that the right isn't racist, yet KKKers tend to be the rights biggest cheerleaders.

See how ****ing stupid that kind of thing sounds?

that is also a stupid post

no one on this board claims to be a klanner and in normal circles membership in the Klan is a stigma. In many elitist circles being a socialist is considered a positive and we have numerous politicians who have adopted the term "democratic socialist" and Bernie Sanders is a proud socialist and a member of the senate. Furthermore racism has as many adherents among the left as the right

so your silly attempt fails completely

Those who dislike Obama crack me up. Label, label, label. That's pretty much in every thread, one way or another. He's this, that or some other sort of commie Pinko thing.

Muslim. Terrorist. Socialist. Communist. African Born. Anti American. Hussein Obama.

Honestly. What is so funny about this, if he was such a monster, you would think the election would be a rout for the new savior from the right.

Perhaps the American people don't agree and are seeing through the constant bombardment of right wing rhetoric and flak.

That's like saying Tchaikovsky and Borodin are Stalinists because Stalin was a fan.

lamer than normal but not beyond the realm of normal expectations

Dude, seriously, you tried to imply that Obama was a socialist because a couple people who call themselves socialists like him. You have no room, at all, to talk about any one making a lame point. Yours was beyond moronic.

I hope the stock market does tank the day after the election so real economist well finally have a quantifiable justification to convince people that the stock market is completely useless.

I would not worry too much. Some one predicting dire events if the other side politically gets what they want is pretty much a daily occurrence and rarely comes true.

Obama was called all sorts of names in the 2008 election, it didn't seem to hurt him at all. The American public isn't that stupid, unless of course they are the extreme right wing, then all bets are off.

Thoughts? Steve Forbes on Newsmax? Ummm.... Overkill? Hyperbole? Propaganda?

But you nailed it -- the GOP and the extreme right are still selling fear. However, it tends to work, so it's hard to blame them... unless you expect them to be, um, intellectually honest or something like that :lamo

I agree with Forbes and am making financial decisions based on the next election. I have a house in town that I have rented out for 15 years and I am waiting to see who wins the election to decide what to do with it. If Obama wins I will sell it because things are just going to get worse. If Romney wins I will rent it out a few more years in anticipation of an economic rebound and housing prices going up.

I find him incompetent. plus he is a bald faced liar. whenever he excretes the nonsense that the rich don't pay their fair share it proves to me what a prevaricating prick he is

Yawn, still posting nonsense. Obama pushes incremental steps towards socialism. Does that mean he is a socialist? perhaps so perhaps not. but he's a useful tool for those who are

Only... he wants to take more tax money from them... So they can pay for social welfare and other distributive measures...
