Rick Santorum Protest: 2 Men Kiss During Rally, Are Thrown Out

The American Flag and chants of USA are used to demean perceived 'lesser' americans daily most likely.

It's a peculiar ritual of the Far Right.

It's self-censorship when they chant "USA USA USA". Deep down they really want to chant, "It's a sin! It's a sin! It's a sin!" Pretend they are really chanting that.

It's embarrassing really, self-censorship.

Ya know what, I'm not going to dismiss that out of hand. The 'display' sure revved up the crowd during a really boring speech, and the 'protesters' sure did file out like the whole thing was pre-planned (not even a "don't tase me, dude!"). Plus the guy with the really long unkempt hair sure did look like a middle-aged right-winger's mental image of a hippie circa the 1960's/70's.

Hmmmmm . . . . . .

I'm just throwing out as a possibility in this Machiavellian world we now live in.

How does 'chants' coinside with this thread? Santorum Protest: 2 Men Kiss During Rally, Are Thrown Out

Isn't there a 'chant' thread somewhere else?

Because they started chanting that during the event.

While true, that does not excuse people going to a political event just to disrupt it. These guys where being dicks and attention whores. It is exactly the wrong way to make your point.
Unless your point is that far right xenophobes (like the typical Santorum fan) become quite rabid when anyone outside of their pack is discovered amongst them. A Pavlovian response, if you will.

The type of crowd one might want to avoid. . . . .

This is the news section. It's part of the article. It isn't your job to limit the subject for everyone else how you see fit.

Wow!!!! Just wow!!! This is important how? Did Santorum physically throw them out? Were these 2 Repubs who just got carried away? Or were these 2 left-wing libbys show their collective arse?
Sorry i brought it up Billy..... Didnt mean to get your panties in such a bunch...

See, the thing is, I can argue against his and others with the same stance without having to call them names.

There is nothing wrong with USA chants. The US is a great country, best in the world. It was kinda silly in this case since the two guys where from the US.

They chant implied they were not 'true' Americans.

there goes the openly gay vote for Santorum

maybe will cost him say 10 votes nationally?

The problem with "the gay vote" is that it may be a lot bigger than we know. Specially at this moment. If my daughter was gay and married, I'd go out to vote against anybody trying to invalidate her marriage. At a gay civil rights protests you have not just gay people - you have their parents, friends, relatives etc. It's what I'd call a proxy factor in voting demographics. It's a demographic which allows you to tap into other groups in society.

Pretty much Rick Santorum is a d-bag

You mean like "dicks and attention whores"?

That would be namecalling, yes. Note that I was not addressing either Santorum nor their position on the issues, but instead how they acted.

Indeed. Steps 1 and 2 on the road to genocide: segregate (label/identify), then dehumanize.

I see. So, your concern is over form, rather than substance?

No. The point is that namecalling is not a political argument. If you cannot argue for or against gay issues without calling names of those who disagree, then you cannot effectively argue for or against. Ad homs are not effective in debate. Calling Santorum supporters "xenophobes" does nothing to counter their position on any issue.

A critical thinker would say that depends upon the metrics used.

It was kinda silly in this case since the two guys where from the US.
It's not silly at all if you consider what you previously labeled hyperbole; to wit, that with the chants the process of ostracization had begun (the two 'kissers' were not worthy of being Americans due to their same-sex category; remember -- identify, label/categorize, dehumanize).

Ah! I was curious as to exactly which 'name' you were objecting to (I supposed it was "d-bag").

Santorum supporters are xenophobes. Santorum himself is a xenophobe. That's not namecalling, nor an ad hominem (assuming that it is used to characterize known behavior) -- it's an anthropological assessment.

Now if I'd called him/them dicks or attention whores, now that would have been namecalling ;)

As for xenophobia i feel they likely fit the glove.

Santorum supporters are xenophobes. Santorum himself is a xenophobe.

What did people expect would happen when two guys started kissing at a Republican event? Did you expect the crowd to cheer?
