Santorum urges Democrats to vote for him in primary

Because Democrats love to vote for fundamentalist Christians...

It's kind of incredible, and cynical, when you think about it. Essentially he's saying, "you know and I know that Romney has a better chance of defeating Obama, so come on out and vote for me. A vote for Santorum is a vote for Obama."

You have to understand that here in Michigan, people are fiercly independent about going back and forth across the ballot as they see fit. It is sort of a tradition that people switch and participate where the action is. So for Santorum to do this is not at all thought of as anything different or objectionable here.

The practical problem is that a black radio station in Detroit is openly advocating that their listeners vote for Ron Paul. I am sure Romney is happy with that. Its really a stupid strategy and plays right into Mitt's hands.

The latest polls here have it a toss up with a 2 to 3 point lead for either man depending on the poll. I still suspect Romeny will take it but would be gleeful with a Santorum win tonight.

the man (if this is true and at the moment I have no real doubt) has no shame, no sense of right and wrong and will sell his own mother for a few more votes/chance to become president.

I support Santorum, but I can't really disagree with this.

You just described every one of the candidates.

Politically stupid. By doing this, if Santorum just barely wins MI, it gives Romney a sledge hammer to hit with for Super Tuesday. Especially how publicly many of the MI Democrat Party members have stated there motivation for voting for Santorum....because it helps Obama.

It is an odd notion and one that could backfire.

In areas where it is KNOWN the Democrat or Republican WILL win due to demographics, in open primary states people of the opposing party will sometimes go vote for the person on the other party they find LEAST objectionable - rather than vote for the one they most dislike to produce a losing challenger - which was Santorum's strategy it appears.

Between some Democrats might go instead to specifically vote AGAINST Santorum, combined with yellow dog Republicans who would find it offensive at best for him to be soliciting "spoiler" Democrat votes, I don't think his clever tactic helped him. It just made it look like he lacks partisan loyalty despite the logic he used in his do-and-say-anything desperate attempt to win. Plus stunts like that can kick him in the ass further down the primary states road.

In real terms this was probably Santorum's last hurrah, though he'll drag it on for a while. Then Santorum will go back to being a Washington DC lobbyist and he'll try to get on Fox News' "analyst" team. Just another DC politician and political hack talking head like he's been since his getting stomped in his Senate re-election.

If you want to re-elect obama then join with michael moore and other liberal democrats, and vote for santorum.

If you want to get rid of obama in november, vote for someone who has a chance at beating him. That would be mitt romney

Am I the only one who hears Santorum talk about "Reagan Democrats" every day and thinks this makes complete sense and is not some ungodly force of pandering?

The GOP wasn't serious about winning this election anyway or they wouldn't put such clowns that the majority of people couldn't vote for.

This election will NOT be decided by either the Liberal voters or Conservative voters.

It's going to be decided by moderate independent swing voters which gives Mitt the best (out of the last 3 republicans standing) chance in going up against Obama. We all know the Liberals are going to vote for Obama no matter what and (except for a few far righties throwing a hissy fit over Romney for not being conservative enough by their standards) conservatives are going to vote for Romney no matter what.... but the percentage of independent swing voters outweigh both parties.

On the contrary, they are very serious about winning the election, which is why we have had such a long time vetting something like a dozen politicians who were at the very least thinking about running.
