Santorum: Obama wants to 'indoctrinate' students by boosting college enrollment

Well damn, I was indoctrinated at BU to think critically, learn how to analysis problems and strengths of articles, how to advance my writing and research, and how to think for myself.
Yeah, I learned how to think, not what to think in college.

Why do you hate God?

Funny you say this, in my humanities and ethics class we read the Bible for some of our basis for good and evil. I didn't realize that what they were actually teaching me is to hate Christianity.

He couldn't be more wrong, if we don't put more emphasis on higher education, and education in general, America will only deteriorate.

They were teaching you to "know thy enemy."

I believe in the inspiration of the Bible (both the Old and the New Testaments);

the creation of man by the direct act of God;

the incarnation and virgin birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ;

His identification as the Son of God;

His vicarious atonement for the sins of mankind by the shedding of His blood on the cross;

the resurrection of His body from the tomb;

His power to save men from sin;

the new birth through the regeneration by the Holy Spirit;

and the gift of eternal life by the grace of God.

The above seems more like indoctrination than any thing else.

nothing would be better for democrates than Santorum winning the nomination.

Here's a blast from Santorum's past:

Santorum U.S. Senate

Guess he's evolved?

Don't give me none of that liberal science talk!

Santorum's remark isn't at all surprising. People like him depend on keeping Americans uneducated.

Personally the PELL Grant was overhauled and the SMART Grant was eliminated. I received a Federal SMART Grant and that was cut under Obama. My PELL Grant shrank even though my personal and family income had stayed the same. The explanation given to me was that rules changed and incomes were adjusted (meaning the government is giving you less money now).

Cry me a river, grant me this, grant me that. Be a man and take out a college loan and pay it back when you start your career. I am so sick of everyone feeling entitled to free education. My mother and father still owe on their college and they are in their 50's. Medical school will follow you for life, but you know what, that's the risk you take when you spend years in college. What benefit does our country recieve sending kids to school for free who can afford to pay back loans when they begin working? Sure they contribute to society, but the money has to come from somewhere to pay teachers and institutions.

I am not a free education nazi, but kids these days feel like everything should be free, WRONG. You are entitled to NOTHING. Damn... I feel like a republican right now. Eeegh.

Unfortunately bro, in my experience, you are the minority on this. Many college students, at least the ones I've met, are taught what and how to think. They are taught what to think because they allow it. I disagree with Santorum on this issue, very much. I think the better message would be to urge all citizens to think for themselves. Not just college students, but everyone. I can't speak for Santorum but maybe he was trying to get at that. He sucked royally at it, but maybe that was it. Or, he could still be on his batty bend he's been on lately. The dude was looking good. Then, he started this verbal purge of stupidity and ignorance. He lost my vote, definitely.

Sound like one too.

I certainly see a noble cause in making college more affordable and easier to pay off. It's not about entitlement, it's about the overall benefits to society.

Patently false. College teaches how to problem solve and critical thinking. Certainly there are sheep in all walks of life. Like Foxbots for example. But to suggest most college students don't benefit from college is absurd right wing radio speak.

If everyone goes to college, who is going to rake my leaves?

Rick Santorum.
He has already gone to college. I suspect one of his kids will be available, since God knows he wont send them to an institution taken over by Satan.

I've been thinking about where Santorum is going to show up after the election. It won't be in the white house so I've been wondering if Fox will pick him up or talk radio or what? I'm sure his current celebrity will land him something. Just curious as to what.

How about a ride out of town on a rail? Santorum and his flock need to recede into the woodwork where they belong.

In my opinion, that's the problem with the republican and libertarian viewpoint on capitalism and tiered societal systems. If "everyone" can better themselves, there is no one left to work at McDonalds or rake your leaves. As much as your party loves to rip on the poor and lower middle classes for being lazy, you need them more than they need you.

It was a joke.

Just like his church. stupidity is the key to more followers. Not to mention the 10 kids they can't afford to raise properly. It is so transparent.

It's possible I'm the minority. I went to a pretty unique college as it is. Even so, I still think it's illogical to call higher education "liberal indoctrination" as Santorum did.

I agree with that. People not thinking critically and not thinking for themselves are big problems in the country.

Yeah, I don't know what's going on with him. He was doing so well and turning out to be the surprise candidate and now he's just screwing it all up. Whoever works in his "PR" department ought to seriously be fired.

From CBS:

In addition, here's a partial video of the speech. In it, Santorum calls Obama a "snob" for wanting everybody in the US to go to college.

Santorum: Obama, 'What A Snob' - Rick Santorum - Fox Nation

He actually made some good points about how not everybody learns the same way and that some really smart people don't go to college. However, he ruined it with stupidity seconds later. It's sad that so many people consider college education "snobbish" and treat higher education as "liberal indoctrination". These are the type of people that are dangerous for our country. That said, as someone who prefers Obama over the Republican options, I hope this fool is the nominee!

Santorum's comments are so hypocritical. He talks down about higher education knowing full well he is a graduate from "Pennsylvania State University, where he pledged the Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity and earned a bachelor's degree in political science in 1980. He followed with an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh in 1981." Taken directly from his biography.

I understand where he's coming from, however, in stressing the need to promote skills training through techical colleges, but him equating elitist status and snobbish attitudes while knowing full well he has a college education is stupid especially given that he has a Master's degree. Does this make him an elitist, too? :roll: Open mouth, insert foot.

Some people just don't think...:doh

Maybe he's for the dumbing down of America....so long as it isn't he or his family.

I thought Romney was talking himself into trouble, then Santorum started mouthing off. Oh well, it's all good for the dems. Piss off the women, piss of the college kids/parents of said. Just keep finding new groups to piss off, dude.

While I disagree with the notion that college is fundamentally indoctrination, it becomes increasingly difficult to ignore the left-wing bias present in college atmospheres. Between the Mathematics books using a basic exponential growth models to demonstrate over population and global warming to the constant hero worship of figures like FDR in public speaking and literal textbooks it becomes pretty clear.

Surprisingly, despite this, it seems there are a large number of Conservative professors. At least in my experience. Not a majority at all, but more than you'd think.

8 years of night classes, collected over 100 credit hours, not once did I have a professor who pushed any political agenda....but it was Idaho, so maybe they figured it wasn't worth the effort...

None of my college professors ever discussed politics or anything of the sort either.
