[h=1]Mitt Romney Did Save Business Partner’s Teen Daughter[/h]

In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared. She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy.

Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to assist with the search. He established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York, and asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter.

Romney’s accountants at Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put flyers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured every part of New York and talked with everyone they could prostitutes, drug addicts, anyone.

That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a home in New Jersey, where they found the girl in the basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later said the girl might not have survived another day

Unlike most viral emails, which is how I found out about this story, it is supported by Snopes. Check it out here.

This is why I find making claims about how good or bad a politician is on a personal level to be somewhat pointless and hollow. There's undoubtably acts like thi, both big and small, by many in politcs on both sides of the aisle that we never hear about. Instead we judge them based on whatever the tabloids pick up, what policies they push, or soundbites. Nice story about Mitt.

yes, as well as on things they've said but that have been taken out of context, and things that they never did say, but were made up by someone else.

I actually think he's a pretty decent guy in real life. Pretty solid family man, gives and has given a sh!t ton to charities. Think Santorum and Paul the same. Gingrich is pure and utter scum with a hyper delicate ego.

All of his sons went to school with a very good friend of mine, and all the teachers at the school loved him. He always came to their things and never pulled any sort of power card. I also work with A LOT of people who used to work quite closely with him, and they have nothing but good things to say. Whether or not his policies are good is a different question and depends on your point of view, but he is definitely (at the least) a very decent guy.

Well, look at how much he did for this girl compared to other people who got lost. He obviously did it because of his friendship. He is a good man towards the ones who are close to him.

But he is not a good guy overall. A good guy do care about the poor more than he does. A good guy do not feel okay lying like he does. He seems to have no problems lying or taking advantage of people, both in business and politics.

And you base this judgment on what?

In terms of lying, he does not do it anymore than others in politics, and less than quite a few. Even his "flip-flopping", if you really look at it, is consistant with what he has said vis-a-vis states rights. He believed he was elected to represent the state of Massachusetts, and he endeavoured to reflect their desires as best he could, regardless of which side of the aisle they were on. I think that is the job of a leader in a democratic country, to put the will of the electorate first (even those who did not vote for him).

How do you know he does not care about poor people (I know you are just regurgitating the quote)? Just because someone may be against entitlement programs does not imply they do not care about the plight of poor people. He consistantly gives A LOT of money to charity, and he has served in a lot of volunteer roles. Maybe he simply wants help for the poor to be more local and personal, rather than funded by innefficient government programs.

Lastly, with regards to the business accusations, I have worked with Bain Capital pretty extensively, and they are, by a long ways, one of the most conscientious private equity firms, at least out of the large ones. They really do focus on growing companies, and this is demonstrated by the fact that they mostly hire management consultants, as opposed to bankers like the other big firms (KKR, Carlyle, etc.). They never fire people unless that is what is needed for the survival/growth of the company. Yes, they return a profit to investors and yes, creating jobs is not the main goal of the company, but I think you will be hard-pressed to find a company whose goal is to simply create jobs.

That is utter BS. Lets take a look at the issues. He was against Obamas bailouts, let Detroit go bancrupt he said. Then he tried to take credit for it. He switched on abortion. He said in early 2000 that he was a progressive, and earlier that he will not return to Reagans policies. Now he is a Reagan conservative. He said quite clearly that he supported Obamas health care plan. If he really cared that much about states, rights then why did he say that he was glad to hear Obama is copying his idea. It is just an excuse. Also, we have his flip flopping on global warming. He was for more gun control, then suddenly became a member of the NRA and was against it. In Florida you must have seen how dishonest he were.

His wife has said that he is very good at convincing people that he believes something, while he may not. There are no candidate who has been a bigger flip flopper than Romney. And he is a massive liar.

No, a democratic leaders job is not to lie to people, to convince people he believes what they believe. The job of a politician is to fight for his ideas, represent his electorate, and then hope voters want it.

Just listen to him speak. "The poor people are doing fine.", "corporations are people my friend". He obviously can not connect or understand poor people, Republican or Democrat.

That sums up your neutrality. His job was not to preserve job or make companies more efficient. His job was to return a profit, and you can see that he sold many of his companies at the top and they collapsed afterwards. So, what makes them so different from Wall Street investors relying on insider information?

No company has a goal to create jobs, but companies that we really look up to, Walt Disney, Ford, GM, etc. provide a product. That is the ones who built America, not Wall Street investors. It is hard to know if Romney provided any benefit to the economy, and his kind of people turn Americas against conservativism.
