Rubio in letter to Obama: You are turning America into a 'deadbeat nation'

When you start having the same judgements on some Dems and begin to express admiration for some deserving Republicans, your opinion might have some gravitas.

I have the same opinion about many Dems. I'm sure I could think of a Republican that I admire in some way if I thought about it for a couple of weeks. :D

I've yet to see evidence that Rubio is anything but a light weight. This letter included.

So what exactly would it take in this situation for Rubio to show you that he is not a light weight? If a democrat had written an identical letter to say, President Bush, you would be applauding him right now. Your bias is based on his political party, not his actions.

What it would take, for starters, would be a REALISTIC and not an purely ideological view of the problem, along with REALISTIC proposed solutions. First, there is zero chance of passing a balanced budget amendment. Second, even if it was possible it would be an absolutely horrible idea. The draconian spending cuts it would require would send the country plummeting into depression and would leave millions of vulnerable Americans out in the cold. The same thing would occur, even more rapidly, if the debt ceiling was not raised, as Rubio proposes.

The letter is nothing but a vague recitation of right wing talking points. Why grandstand on it if you have nothing new or helpful to add? How about at least acknowledging that any debt problem must be attacked by addressing both sides of the ledger -- spending AND revenue? It would actually require some courage to face that fact and set aside the partisan dogma, but he doesn't appear to be capable of rising to that level.

So because there is zero chance of passing a sane budget amendment, one should not even try? You talk of depression as if its a future possibility. We are in a worse depression now than has ever been experienced in America. Living conditions would make the majority of Americans think otherwise, but the spiraling debt of America and the individual American prove that point. How raising the debt ceiling is supposed to end that depression doesnt even make logical sense.

You are right that the eventual answer is going to require additional revenue AND budget cuts. But that additional revenue cant come from increasing taxes on already struggling Americans, nor can we continue to squeeze money out of the "upper class" because eventually even they will run out of money (you cant lift up the weak by pulling down the strong). The answer is in, believe it or not, LOWERING taxes for ALL AMERICANS! and of course getting the 50% of Americans who dont even pay taxes, back in the game. You think that all these federal programs are providing for Americans, when if fact, its the cost of those very programs that are burdening all Americans to the point that they can no longer sustain themselves without the governments help. (which i believe was the plan from the start)

We cant increase taxes just so we can increase spending. We have to DECREASE taxes so we can lessen the burden on the people so that we can INCREASE income! Increased income even at a lower tax rate will produce more revenue than a higher tax rate at no income. On top of that, the federal government needs to realize that it has no place trying to provide for the American people. The federal government is in place for one reason! To assure the rights of every American are not infringed. To make sure that the Constitution is upheld and to prosecute those who violate it. It is the states responsibility to to provide TO AN EXTENT for those living within that state. The federal government, more specifically, the politicans have forgotten their place and their responsibility to the American people.
