From the same people who support Purity Balls and Penis Keepers, the Virginia GOP introduces the Virginia GOP Required Loyalty Oath. Isn't that just great? Gotta love these personal freedom, small government folks!

The Virginia Republican Party is planning to force voters who wish to participate in the March 6 primary to sign a loyalty oath. The Virginia State Board of Elections has given the party permission to go ahead with their plans to make primary voters pledge their support to the eventual nominee no matter who it is.
“The code of Virginia allows for political parties to require individuals who wish to participate in presidential primaries to sign a pledge that he or she will support the party’s candidate in the general election,” Board of Elections Deputy Director Justin Riemer told NBC Washington.
According to the Ricmond Times-Dispatch, voters will be required to sign a document that reads: “I, the undersigned, pledge that I intend to support the nominee of the Republican Party for president.”

Things are so damned rotten in the GOP that they probably can't beat Obama, and that's pretty damned rotten. In fact, Virginia thinks things are so bad that they need to get voters to promise to vote GOP no matter who the nominee is. In Georgia we used to call that "buying a pig in a poke", meaning you'd agree to buy a pig tied in a poke (burlap bag) sight unseen", which means the purchaser is an idiot. Well, Virginia is looking for a few good idiots. Instead of voting your choice the Virginia GOP want to play communist and force GOP voters to vote the party candidate, no matter what - and pledge to do so in the primary. How small government is that? It isn't.

In my opinion, partisan politics sucks like a bucket of ticks. I believe in one man, one vote. Both parties can kiss my Irish ass, I'll vote for whomever. Whomever in my case is whomever is running against the incumbent. I do hope right thinking Virginians will tell the state GOP to "shove it up dey butts".

I mean, what if you don't? It isn'tlike they can arrest you for it.

This is a stupid move. However when you read the actual article and not the article that links to the article that cites the original article you can see their intent. Virginia is an open primary state meaning that democrats (who have virtually no chance of having to select a democrat contender) could freely vote in the GOP primary for the least likely successful candidate. Currently there are only two candidates on the ballot...Paul and Romney. The concern is that people NOT registered republicans will en-masse legally support Ron Paul. I would say that they could really screw things up by writing in votes for Sarah Palin...but Im not at all sure that write in candidates are accepted.

Understandable reasoning...really bad idea.

Big ****ing deal.

All they're doing is trying to get loyal Republicans to vote in the primary, which is an open primary because there is no registration by party in Virginia. So what? It's not like they can arrest you if you change your mind.

........yet

so typical of the narrow authoritarian mindset that is increasingly rightwing republican.

How would they know who you eventually voted for?

Those Nazis will be videotaping from cameras in the ceiling of the polling places. And in the men's bathroom just because that's the way they are.

Write-ins for primary elections in Virginia are illegal, according to Virginia state code.

JMO, but write-ins should never... ever... be illegal. Or restricted.

Some states require that write-in candidates register to run as such. That's wrong, too.

As a Virginian (and on my honor as a saboteur) I promise to vote for the Republican nominee in November after placing my primary vote for Ron Paul! ;)
