Gingrinch compares Virginia ballot fiasco to Pearl Harbor

No, he claimed it was "unexpected". The problem is, he should have expected what every other candidate expected (ie the need to get enough signatures to get on the ballot)

He claimed the problem was unexpected. Don't let the facts get in your way.

1) I was responding to another poster who mentioned the surprise factor
That's fine, I was just making sure things didn't go off on an inaccurate tangent.

2) He's no longer tied for first. He's sinking, and sinking fast. Now it's Pawlentys' turn

Pawlenty dropped out months ago. I guess you really really have a low opinion of Gingrich.

All the other candidates knew to expect that more signatures were needed in order to get on the ballot. Don't let that fact get in yours

McCain lost

And yes, it's Santorum who is surging now. My bad.

Actually McCain won the republican primary, which is what we are talking about.

Unfortunately thats an untrue story, confirmed by his family (daughters). He may have been cheating on her then, but he didnt notify her of the divorce while she was in the hospital.

Well, he was certainly screwing his girlfriend while his wife was in the hospital dying of cancer. He even admits that.

Actually Perry ran into the same problem, and this does not change the fact that the setback was unexpected. This is in the very article linked in the OP, you might want to read it.

In (sorta) Gingrich's defense, he has had major shakeups in staff and almost no money to get the best people with.

Just like a judge would say "ignorance is not a point of law" I say "bull-hockey"...his staff left because while he is a genius, he is also an ego-maniac, much more than Obama.

Oh trust me, I am wasting no effort in feeling bad for Gingrich, and hell, my post was actually a subtle jab at him.

BTW...Perry also won't be on the ballot (I live in "The Old Dominion")

A subtle jab is like a mosquito on a rhino...useless.

Really, Newt?

Folks have been saying for a while it was only a matter of time before Newt said something stupid and put his foot in his mouth. Well, looks like they were right.

Newt is simply displaying something called, "JAILHOUSE MENTALITY". In other words, "I'm not guilty, its him, her, or it". I'm a victim. I was innocent when I was fined $300,000 for unethical behavior while serving as Speaker of the House. Somebody else made me screw around on my wife while I was grandstanding to get Clinton impeached over Lewinsky. I'M INNOCENT!

Newt is a pathological liar. He's a huckster that will sing any song to any group who will give him 5 minutes of time. I could burn up a keyboard writing about what a genuine asshole Newt is.

I know my comments fall on blind eyes - so I'll stop here.

Actually, it was expected. The other candidates expected to have a portion of their signatures disqualified, which is why they got many more signatures than they needed. Every four years, the candidates do this. There's nothing "unexpected" about it.

If you discover on April 14th that you made a mistake on your taxes, need a new form that you can't get till the 16th, you have experienced an unexpected setback, even though you knew taxes where due the 15th. You are trying way too hard.

As I understand it the rule says that 10k signatures are requires, but if you get 15k signatures or more, they are "deemed" to be valid signatures, i.e., they don't check them to make sure they're valid. Both Romney and Paul got over 15k so they didn't have to worry about it.

Anybody who has ever done any kind of petition drive for anything knows that you'll lose - on average - 10-15% of your signatures due to duplication, illegibility, or lack of qualifications.

There is something massively wrong with the system in VA when only two of four who try to get on the ballot make it, and the rest don't even try. This is the first year that VA actually verified the signatures, as in years past, if you got 10K, you were on. To their credit, VA did warn candidates back in March that they were checking now, and to get 15-20K signatures. Hopefully Perry's lawsuit will bear fruit.

In the meantime, Gingrich didn't say anything about Pearl Harbor and VA. ;)

Unless you're a tax professional, if you do your (the general "you", not "you = redress") own taxes, a mistake would not be unexpected

And this is why I said you are trying to hard.

I wonder who Gingrich will vote for in the VA primary??
