One by one we have seen Romney's opponents implode. Newt's skeletons are beginning to dance out:

"Newt Gingrich’s star is on the rise in Iowa, but a leading conservative voice in the Senate remains unimpressed.
Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn says he “will have difficulty supporting (Gingrich) as president of the United States” based on his experience serving in the House during Gingrich’s years as speaker.

“The thing is there are all type of leaders. Leaders that instill confidence, leaders that are somewhat abrupt and brisk, leaders that have one standard for the people they are leading and different standard for themselves,” Coburn said on Fox News Sunday. “I found his leadership lacking.”
Gingrich served as speaker of the House from 1995 until he resigned 1999, a turbulent period in Congress marked by bitter partisan fighting, impeachment, government shutdowns, but also compromise on policy. Gingrich stepped down after his party unexpectedly lost seats in the 1998 midterms election, amid pressure from his Republicans colleague and ethics accusations.

Coburn, who was elected to Congress as part of the Republican wave in 1994, gave Gingrich credit for organizing the vast GOP victories, saying “he’s brilliant, he has lots of positives.” But he suggested that other Republicans in the class of ’94 would have similar reservations."

Will Newt be the next to implode?

I saw that interview. It was pretty brutal. I don't know if Coburn had personal issues with Gingrich or what, but dang - if more leading Conservatives from that era start coming out like this, it will not be good for ole Newt.

I have heard his name before. He was one of Gingrich biggest critics during the 90s.

Problem for him, no one have heard of him. He has no influence what so ever on the election. The average supporter is just going to think. Some guy criticize my candidate. Must be a RINO.

If he ever get some attention from the media, then Fox News only need to tell this statement from wikipedia.

In the House, Coburn earned a reputation as a political maverick due to his frequent battles with House Speaker Newt Gingrich.[11] Most of these stand-offs stemmed from his belief that the Republican caucus was moving toward the political center and away from the more conservative Contract With America policy proposals that had brought the Republicans into power in Congress in 1994 for the first time in 40 years.

wait. you claim that coburn is a moderate, and then cite him as being a conservative. ?

Coburn is A) pretty conservative and B) retiring after this term. he really doesn't have any incentive other than to say what he thinks.

Harsh but not surprising interview. This isn't much of a "skeleton out of the closet". Its long been documented that Newt rubbed a lot of people in the house the wrong way by the end of his tenure.

I didn't say he was a moderate, but he said that the Republicans have to become more moderate to win over voters. Also, he has criticized Fox News. They can attack him on that, if he ever become influential.

The problem the conservatives face is there is no one left standing..all the teaparty favorites have been rejected by traditional and moderate GOP and independents....gotta face it CP...the gop primary field just lacked

Dr. Coburn is far right conservative. He has not only criticized Gingrich, but many other Republicans in Congress. If you want to know whether he is influential or not, consider that he endorsed Allan Keyes in the 2000 presidential race.

I wish coburn was running for president hes my kind of man...he says what he believes and doesnt play follow the leader....hes just one of many traditional GOP that arent buying into the far right faction of the republican party and he realizes that they have a losing formula going foward...I hope more traditional moderates republicans come forward and take the party back..

with the exception of Perry (who did bomb, but not because he was insufficiently moderate, but rather for the opposite reasons), and Bachmann (ditto), Tea Party favorites haven't really been running - and Bachmann wasn't even so much a favorite as it was that she claimed the title. Rubio, Rand, West, Ryan, et al. aren't in this race.

but you are right that we lacked. specifically we lacked Mitch Daniels.

um... Tom Coburn's lifetime ACU rating is 98%. He's effectively tied for the most conservative member of the US Senate, along with James Inhofe and Jim DeMint.

I'm thinking once again you launched into an attack without any idea about what or who you were attacking.

Endorsing Allan Keyes does not make you influential.

No one (apart from political pundits) know who he is. He has no influence what so ever on the election. And as I told you, it is easy to discredit him.

of course he endorsed keyes in the race. keyes was the Republican. you'll find few democratic senators in 1984 who endorsed reagan rather than mondale.

and conservatives do know who he is. he was on the Simpson-Bowles Commission, and has been front and center since on the deficit reduction issue.

I said it doesn't matter who he endorsed in 2000. No one cares if he endorsed Bush, McCain, or Keynes.

Most voters do not know what Simpson-Bowles Commission even is. You need to realize that most voters just follow the election vagualy.

What he says has no influence on the election, because only 20% or so of the voters know who he is. And even less knows what he stands for.

Considering the damage he is done I hope he implodes.

Clearly if he's out rubbing people the wrong way, he's not going to make friends. He should know by now to use some lube.

I mentioned that to show that he is NOT influential.

I wouldn't call Coburn a moderate. I saw the interview and Coburn's problem was more about Gingrich's temperament than his policies. He said Gingrich has a harsh way of dealing with people that he thought would not make him a good leader.

The GOP

From your article:

"Mr. Gingrich has fatal flaws. Contrary to his reputation, he is not a principled conservative. Rather, he is a corporatist Republican, who for decades has championed globalism, free trade and open borders. He supported the 1986 amnesty bill. During the 1990s, he touted the benefits of massive immigration, NAFTA and economic globalization. The results have been disastrous: the loss of millions of manufacturing jobs, the erosion of national sovereignty and the dissolution of our distinct cultural identity."

Yep, more reasons I think he will implode in the eyes of the GOP base.
