Hate this guy. I disagree with the other candidates but I actually hate this guy. Making this painful to say.

I agree with him on this:

I think, in retrospect, repealing the Glass-Steagall Act was probably a mistake. We should probably reestablish dividing up the big banks into a banking function and an investment function and separating them out again. -- Gingrich
linkypoo...

That being said, he often says things to seem different then it blows up in his face and he runs for cover denying his previous statement... but for now in the temporary, I agree with him on something.

he's a POS..... but as you say, he's right on this one.

nobody can accuse him of being stupid...but he's still a POS as a person.

It's actually something many on the left have been saying for some time. Bernie Sanders in particular. I'm glad to see someone on the right saying it now too so that it might not stay a right vs left issue and become an issue that can get resolved.

Gingrich is the smartest of all the GOP candidates.

Too bad being smart doesn't necessarily make one a good President.

Hmm? Paul voted against the repel of Glass-Steagall .

Sometimes ideas stand or fall on their own merit

I agree, too -- pretty obvious. Gingrich might actually be a decent candidate if he would stick with what he actually believes. You get the feeling that Gingrich, unlike Romney, actually has some well considered opinions. But like Romney, he will reverse course if there is the slightest indication that it's in his best interest to do so.

Oh yeah, and he's also a world-class POS.

Many people do not like Newt because of his personality and his past wives. However, he is by far the smartest man in the race, is a true conservative, and is a good candidate. I think he should be the alternative to Romney, instead of Cain. Newt is the guy saying what conservatives want to hear, yet his poll numbers dont reflect that because many people dont like him.

I responded to the wrong goddamn post.

Gingrich is the the smartest cat in the race. There isn't any question about his intelligence and his capability.

He's the only one that has the potential to be the next Renaldus Magnus.

I don't give a lot of credence to the Newt-is-a-genius line. He says one really stupid thing for every really smart thing he says.

POS as a person? Really, and you base that on what?

I agree. Gingrich is no dummy.

As demonstrated by the current one.

Really? You need to ask? Let's see, he cheated on his first wife and dumped her while she was in the hospital recovering from surgery. He married the woman he was cheating with, and then screwed around on her and married the woman he was screwing around with ... again. While he was cheating on his second wife he was going after Clinton for cheating on HIS wife with Monica Lewinsky. I'll just quote this next one from Wiki:

"During his term as Speaker, eighty-four ethics charges were filed against him; eighty-three of them were dropped.[61] The remaining charge concerned a 20-hour college course called "Renewing American Civilization" that Gingrich had taught through a tax-deductible foundation, Kennesaw State College Foundation. Allegations of tax improprieties led to two counts "of failure to seek legal advice" and one count of "providing the committee with information which he knew or should have known was inaccurate" concerning the use of a tax exempt college course for political purposes. To avoid a full hearing, Gingrich and the House Ethics Subcommittee negotiated a sanctions agreement. Democrats accused Gingrich of violating the agreement, but it was forwarded to the House for approval.[62][63] On January 21, 1997, the House voted 395 to 28 to reprimand Gingrich, including a $300,000 "cost assessment" to recoup money spent on the investigation."

Since '97 he has basically been running an imaginary political campaign and living off donations he's solicited. I guess he finally decided that he had to actually run for something this year or risk losing the tenuous rationale he's been using to solicit donations. But it's pretty clear his campaign is not serious -- just another attempt to bilk donors out of their money. That's why his campaign manager and top staffers walked out in June. I guess they were a little peeved that he chose to take a two-week cruise in the Greek Islands instead of actually ... you know ... campaigning for the nomination.

Here's a classic Newt moment from yesterday. Maybe the basis for his new book, "Flip-flop in 13 Seconds":

GINGRICH: If you watch in the next few weeks, the Shia are going to go after the Sunnis. I mean the second we are out of that country, the Shia, this is their first chance in hundreds of years –

KRAUTHAMMER: Are you glad that we’re out as a result of that?

GINGRICH: I think — yeah — I think there’s no short term advantage to us being there. And I really thought by the way, trying to leave 3,000 troops was an invitation for total disaster.

KRAUTHAMMER: So you approve of the agreement, or the place where the president has come to?

GINGRICH: No! No. I think we are — look if this president had been serious we’d be in a different place.

I think Gingrich would make a great president.....Unfortunately he is not electable............

And you probably think Teddy Kennedy was a stand-up guy, right ??

Of course Democrats filed a ton of violations against him. He was effective and a huge thorn in their side.

He would make a very good President. I would vote for him. But, I don't think he's electable. His contract with America was a great idea and he stuck to it as well as he was allowed.

It cracks me up when Democrats criticize Republicans for cheating on their wives. I understand it when "the religious right" does it, and I certainly think husbands should not cheat on their wives. Ideally, I'd like to have a morally wholesome man as president. But, I'm not sure "faithful husband" should be a huge priority when it comes to leadership. Bill obviously cheats on Hillary. I can see why that would make her somewhat pathetic (weak and tolerant). But, I'm not sure why that makes him weak as a leader or stupid. He was just weak because he didn't say "Sure, I cheated. Wouldn't you?" "I'm a powerful guy, I sleep with who I want."

What cracks me up is seeing you conservatives defend these slimeballs after you spent eight years blowing a gasket over the exact same kind of sh*t from Clinton. Literally tried to run him out of office for it!! The galactic scale of the hypocrisy is absolutely mindblowing.

Note: the question wasn't whether Gingrich's sliminess would prevent him from being a good President. It was just whether he is a slimeball. And he most certainly is. So is Clinton, for that matter.

Psst.... Clinton was impeached for perjury, NOT a blowjob or cheating on his wife.

Lying under oath is a whole different matter my left wing friend.

I think you both know that many in the GOP were trying to drum him out of office before he even lied. The lie was just the icing on the cake of them trying to drum him out of office for the blowjob. They pushed Ken Starr out front to investigate the "white-water" scandal. Didn't stick. Instead of dissolving the investigation, moved the goal-posts to the "travel-gate" scandal. DIdn't stick. Kept moving the goal-post until they dug up a blow-job.

Claiming that the GOP was working from an ethical standing on any of that is laughable.
