Romney: How I'll tackle spending, debt

Here's what I like: at least he's got some ideas.

Here's what I don't like: same old stuff Republicans say every 4 years. Until they get into office, and then none of it happens.

I don't know. I want to like Romney. I'm just not thrilled about voting for the same old ideas that got us into trouble in the first place.

So cut 500 bil by 2016 but put that money back into militarism/bailout money. o_O. Yea, I have no trust with Romney.

could he be more vague about how to reform entitlements?

any debt plan without tax increases on top earners and significant cuts to military spending is a non-starter.

what Republicans are promoting is akin to a family buying more and more guns while the bank is foreclosing on the house, and then trying to make up the difference by cutting the kids' allowance and food.

Irresponsible defense cuts. Is this guys serious?

Problem is, there are no proper cuts. He only outlines the easy ones.
1. He has in fact no plans to repeal obamacare. He wants to make it a waiver, and if you want to opt out then it has to cover the same amount of people and not cause an increase in deficit.
2. Giving a program over to the state is no cut. It is a transfer of power
3. To include productivity gains, reduce bureaucracy, or hire less workers needs specifics.

His specific cuts may save him 50 billion a year. Cuts to abortion and art will not be a big factor. What is really killing the federal budget is enlistments, and he does nothing to solve those problems. Not only that, but he wants no cut to military spending.

if you live in a world in which your livelihood depends on guns; that is the correct decision to make. our economy depends on world trade. world trade depends on world stability. world stability depends on a forward-deployed US military. deep cuts to defense will function similarly to eating seed corn. we will save pennies to lose fortunes when our economy collapses.

This article alone is exactly why nobody but Ron Paul will even make an honest attempt at solving our fiscal woes.

out of oner side of his face said:
{my plan]would still allow us to undo the Obama administration's irresponsible defense cuts.

the other side of his face said:
Washington is full of sacred cows that supposedly can't be slaughtered and electrified third rails that allegedly can't be touched. But if we do not act now, the irresistible mathematics of debt will soon lead to unimaginable peril.

earth to the idiots in the world, we spend way, way more on "defense" (in quotes because it is bull**** to call most of our spending defense) then any other country around. Defense is the neo-con's sacred cow, and needs even more cuts.
