Contributions for the GOP side will grow once they're focused on on candidate. Obama is pretty much assumed to be the winner of the Dem primary process already. I don't think it's and apples to apples comparison at this point.

Thats weird, the math doesn't add up.

$70,000,000 * 98% = $68,600,000 <--- amount in small donations

$68,600,000 / $56 = 1,225,000 donations.

Thats twice as many as 600,000.

Well I think it's because he's running unopposed in the Democratic primaries. He can tour the country and pretty much get ready for the General Election next fall. Whereas Mitt Romney and the rest of the GOP field still has to battle it out. I think once the GOP nominee is decided (probably Romney) the fund raising will be more equitable

the OP link says 98% of the total number of contributors gave an average of $56 -- it does not say 98% of the contributed amount came from the 'over 600,000' small contributors.
