Liberals voice concerns about Obama

Liberals are growing increasingly nervous that President-elect Barack Obama seems to be stiffing them on Cabinet jobs and policy choices.

Liberals are growing increasingly nervous – and some just flat-out angry – that President-elect Barack Obama seems to be stiffing them on Cabinet jobs and policy choices.

Obama has reversed pledges to immediately repeal tax cuts for the wealthy and take on Big Oil. He’s hedged his call for a quick drawdown in Iraq. And he’s stocking his White House with anything but stalwarts of the left.

Now some are shedding a reluctance to puncture the liberal euphoria at being rid of President George W. Bush to say, in effect, that the new boss looks like the old boss.

“He has confirmed what our suspicions were by surrounding himself with a centrist to right cabinet. But we do hope that before it's all over we can get at least one authentic progressive appointment,” said Tim Carpenter, national director of the Progressive Democrats of America.

OpenLeft blogger Chris Bowers went so far as to issue this plaintive plea: “Isn't there ever a point when we can get an actual Democratic administration?”

I guess this will seperate the ideologues from the partisans....

Gee, maybe if he'd been better vetted they'd have known what a sneaky guy he could be.

Well, they got what they wanted.

Let them like it or lump it.

Doesn't this directly contradict the right-wing meme about Obama supporters being mindless kool-aid drinkers? Like completely contradict that?

Not that expect hellhound or bkhd or any of the other detractors to comment, but I'm just sayin'.

As I said... this will seperate the ideologues from the partisans.
So to answer your question:
No, not necessarily.

Some of the original Kool-Aid drinkers, at Jonestown, balked when they saw Jim Jones had duped them.

It didn't save them, though.

IF Obama (who I'm starting to like and admire but still don't trust) was trying to build up the most amount of support before executing a move that he knows will be controversial (Islamic, Communistic, Felonistic[???]) this would be the thing to do and the way to do it.

Why not?

See Obama promised change. and he is giving you more of the same. I have threads on it.

Some of you will drink whatever kool-aid dear leader gives you.

Others will take him to task for his lies.

I support these left wing people for standing up for thier ideals and critisizing obama even though they are kooks..because they are kooks with principles...

now instead of your little bitching act, perhaps you can tell us how you feel about this topic and not how great the Good Reverend is...:2wave:

I cannot tell you how many times I referred to Obama as JAFLD
(Just another f-ing liberal democrat)
It appears that he just isnt as liberal as the liberals thought.

Those would be the partisans

Those would be the ideologues

Give him time. This is all a dog and pony show to let your guard down to his leftism.

Why do you think it contradicts what right-wingrs were supposedly saying?

This story confirms what I've always thought about Obama...there is no "there" there. His ideas are really nothing more than electoral platitudes whose only common denominator is winning votes.

That's why all of his campaign promises comes with an expiration date.

I loved this statement from Tim Carpenter, national director of the Progressive Democrats of America, "He has confirmed what our suspicions were by surrounding himself with a centrist to right cabinet. But we do hope that before it's all over we can get at least one authentic progressive appointment."

I love it because prior to today we hadn't heard such suspicions being presented by groups like the PDA.

Personally, I don't mind his cabinet. It's not the one I would have put together, but I don't have any real problems with it. I don't want blind ideologues in the cabinet. I want people who are intellegent, talented, and the best in their game. I figure that the president dictates policy, so that the individual bent of the secretary is diminished. Look at Bush. He picks Colin Powell, one of the most moderate people out there, to be his SoS. Does this moderate Bush? No. Instead, you have Powell at the UN making a case for attacking Iraq. It'll be the same here, that Obama will dictate policy, and his secretaries will go along with it.

That is how a presidency works.
Bush chose Powell for the sole purpose of banking on Powell's merits and credibility. Once Powell got him what he wanted, Powell was kicked under the bus.
All of Obama's cabinet are very capable, and very competent.
This whole notion of "not what we expected" or "what change is this". What did people think? That he'd fill his cabinet with ideologues? That we are getting competent, practically minded realists IS change.
$100 says that Obama wouldn't fill the FEMA with a moron that while able to tell the difference between a horses ass from that of an ass', has no idea where New Orlean is.

The Hobo had done a fine job of walking a fine line of neutrality in his comments and you thought there was something missing.

Partisanship.

So you rushed in to fill the supposed void.

That's like the Pacific Rim guys who come here and have to soup up their Hyundai with decals and tinted windows and dingleballs and stuffed animals because the original factory look just doesn't look cool enough.

Congratulations.

This equvocation brought to you by a member of the 'partisan' camp.

Has it become final that Hillary Clinton is to be Secretary of State? Cause I really see Cindy Sheehan in that position. She has the ability to really understand the positions of America's enemies.

This is more or less what I expected from Obama. Clinton's triangulation taught me alot about the realities of presidential politics. Honestly that dissapointment was probably a key reason Gore lost. No one on the left thought we were facing a meaningful choice then.

Yep, there's gonna be a lot of dissapointed liberal idealists out there. Many of them too young to remember the heady days of '92. Also some conservatives will be pleasantly surprised to be wrong. $5 says they won't remember it when the next Emmanuel Goldstein comes around though.

She looks like Prince Charles.

....I think the title is misleading. Anybody who thought Obama was going to be some liberal God enforcing all liberal ideas on the populace simply did not do their homework. Not surprisingly the majority of those happen to be Conservatives and far left Liberals. Oh well.
