Maybe they don't want democracy because Arab democracies tend to produce extremism, corruption, instability, or all of the above. Maybe they don't want democracy because they just believe that a dictator or king is a better system of government. Maybe they don't want democracy because they feel that they aren't informed enough about the issues to make a rational decision (which is probably true).
Is it really that shocking that someone from another part of the world might not want the same things from a government that YOU want? Does it make them "unintelligent"? No.
Hell if I lived in nearly any Arab state, I wouldn't be clamoring for democracy. I can't think of a better way to send any of those countries to hell in a handcart. |
Democracy is difficult and takes a while, but democracy is always worth it. Through
"transformational diplomacy" and strong partnerships with theses nations, it can be achieved.
