Maybe we need to fix the system so that it is not seen as a last resort! |
I know the VA system has its issues. And yes, some of the treatment has been less then standard but the whole of VA care is not "poor" and I believe if anyone here has ever used a VA facility they would support my position.
IMO when it's all said and done the care is dependent upon the individual providing the care, just as in any commercial hospital or clinic so you have good doctors and bad doctors, good nurses, bad nurses, good dentists, bad dentists, etc. etc. ad nauseum.
I, like you, do believe the VA could use some fixin' though. Particularly in their facilities and who is eligible for treatment and care. IMO, and only IMO, any and all veterans, able bodied or disabled, deserve the treatment the VA was designed to offer even if it's only preventive care.
ISTM turning away a veteran because they are not "poor" is a slap in the face of a veteran who works and earns a fair income but is unable to pay for medical/dental insurance. To state only "poor" vets deserve VA care seems to border on declaring a defined caste system rather then basing benefits on service.
