Because on some of the more important issues to many conservatives, he's been one of the loudest against some of the things.

Because some are upset with Bush not exactly being Mr. Uber Conservative, and thus voting with him all the time doesn't say much. Remember, one of the biggest reasons conservatives dislike McCain is something him and Bush agreed on...Immigration.

Because he repeated basically speaks with utter contempt for conservative principles and conservatives in general. Its like that guy that can't stand and is embarrassed of his family and is trying to explain it to the neighbors so they neighbors will like him better...only the family is standing there 3 feet back hearing him say it all.
