Remember that the Muslims had plenty reasons to hate the US well before 1972. Support of the oppressive Shah of Iran, support of the Saudi Monarchy, supporting the lies that Britain and France gave to the Muslims, supporting Israel (remember the Yom Kippur War, Operation Nickel Grass saved their butts), the list goes on and on. In many ways, Ron Paul is correct about "not making enemies," especially in the context of the history of this region. We gave them a laundry list of reasons to hate us before 1972.
