Indeed. Let's get some coherent criteria going here to raise this question out of the abstract, meaningless muck.
After all, I find it highly doubtful that the militias or terrorists or whoever we're fighting over there will be able to make us unconditionally surrender and will then occupy the United States, disbanding our armed forces and converting us all to Islam. So take solace! We have some breathing room to define our own victories!
By win do you mean militarily defeating the Baathist regime, toppling Saddam and so forth? Mission accomplished!
Does winning mean that we realize that we no longer have anything to gain in Iraq and leaving? That would consitute a major victory in my opinion.
Does winning mean staying there forever? Or until Iraq becomes a Jeffersonian democracy that sells us an infinite supply of oil for $3 a barrel?
