Venezuela is a pretty good example that there's no such thing as a one size fits all government. What they have works for them. It probably would fail miserably elsewhere. I had a feeling that things were not as bad as certain media outlets want us to believe. For one thing, the article is right, Venezuelans are extremely politically active and aware and if they were not happy with their lot, you can be sure that they would have tried to change things around. Also, the fear of "socialism" in certain parts of the world is so deeply ingrained, it's difficult for them to accept that any kind of socialist influenced government could actually be successful.
