Now, in my music appreciation class, we study world religion as it relates to the music of that religion and region. The kids are very open to it and I've had no complaints from students or parents.

That is the thing. As long as religion is not being presented as "you should believe this one" then most people are fairly open to hearing about and learning about other religions, because it is interesting.
