I don't agree its a more appropriate term, but more like a description of what kind of conservatism we are talking about. Iran and Saudi Arabia are conservative fundamentalist nations, where as places like Jordan are conservative dictatorships but not fundamentalist as the 2 others.. but they all are conservative, as they stick to "the old ways" rather than embrace (much needed) change, one of the cornerstones of conservatism as per the already posted definition.

And I state again, has nothing to do with American, Americans, or American conservatives.. that's something certain people have brought to the table to derail the discussion because they don't like the word "conservative" being linked with Islam.
