If you have insurance, the price for your visits, treatments, procedures, etc, automatically goes UP.

I can tell you that from the experiences of working both in the medical field and for a major insurance company.
I'm not coming at this from a hospital's prospective. My wife is an Audiologist working at a private practice and I know for a fact that they don't over inflate their prices to pay for the uninsured. They don't even see uninsured patients really, who goes to an Audiologist who doesn't have coverage? Insurance companies NEVER pay them the full cost of the tests; instead they pay them what they think the tests should cost which is usually around 60% of the bill. So what choice do the doctors have other than raising the bill 166%? Audiology is an industry that is inflated almost entirely because of the shady practices of insurance companies.

Hospitals may be in a different boat, I can't say, but to paint all doctors as money hungry is completely false. If I had to chose a bad guy here, from what I've seen first hand, it would have to be the insurance companies.
