Whether or not the US has a large proportion of low skilled workers hasn't been much of a problem in the past. It became a problem when the employers of illegals bought off the corrupt fed gov into allowing a 19th century illegal Mexican scab workforce to invade the US and illegally compete with and undercut the wages of American workers, for the express purpose of lowering the wages of legal American workers. Of course it was OK to the bought off corrupt fed gov for the employers of illegals to increase their profits by employing illegal Mexican scab labor at the expense of taxpaying American workers.
