Its why the Republicans despite actually having a majority for 12 years (one of the few times in the last century they have held a majority for any length of time), did not have the popular support to get hardly any of their agenda enacted. Because the Democrats are so unpopular.

The overall left-wing party objectives of the democrat party are within reach because of blue-dog democrats that have out-conservative'd Republican incumbents to pick up House & Senate seats.
Then again, they may not be.
The Blue-dogs are beholden to the conservative voters that helped elect them. Therefore we may see some real fractioning within the Democrat party in the years to come.
Ask the GOP what happens when the tent gets too big.
