| Re: Do Immigrants Work Harder? Depends on your definition of "harder". I would say yes - farming, gardening, and other outdoor manual labor is hardly easy. They're not doing something as physically straining as chopping down trees like Paul Bunyon, but if you saw how things are down here around where I am, you'd see things differently. Right now it's 92 degrees outside and I promise you that there are tons of Mexicans out there picking tomatoes, peas, and berries as I type this, constantly bending over in the midst of a blazing sun. I can respect that, especially since I spend my time sitting on my fat can in the air conditioning.
These Mexicans aren't ruining the economy because they're taking jobs that most Americans won't take. Hell, on the CBS News, I saw two adjacent stories - one talking about how farmers are finding it difficult to hire workers to help with harvest and field management...and a report saying how teenagers are discovering a shortage in summer jobs. I just looked at the TV like it was stupid. For a second, I thought I was the only one putting 2 and 2 together.
