These are people who have great political influence, and want a Christian Theocracy much like Islamists want an America under Sharia law.
Heck even Huckabee wanted to change change the constitution so that it is in line with his dogma. The fact that such people can have millions of followers, and weekly phonecalls with the President (see "Ted Haggard") the most powerful office on earth.
