Here's a fun fact that may save someone's life someday.
Have you ever seen a high speed police car chase where the suspect's car just loses control and runs off the road or into a tree? Have you ever seen the result of a ONE car accident out in the middle of nowhere with no other vehicles around, where the car runs into a tree or light pole or something?
Well the reason is often (not always but more often than you know) the result of heat related tire sidewall failure.
The faster the car travels the more heat builds up in the tires. When the tires get warm enough the side walls no longer have the strength necessary to support the weight of the car and so the least amount of sideways momentum, as is experienced in just turning the steering wheel enough to keep the car going straight, can be enough to send the car careening out of control.
When the tires get warm enough the rubber becomes like jelly.
On every tire you will see, in very small print, it's heat rating. Expensive sports car tires have a higher temperature rating than family cars do. And they cost a lot of money because they are built to handle the higher temperatures and sideways pressures of cars going in excess of 120 MPH.
The average family car tire is only expected to experience heat that comes from driving at highway speeds. Faster than that, like in a high speed police chase or on a lonely road and the driver, often young and under the influence, speeding down the road to see how fast his car will go, will result in a crash.
The tires don't get so hot that they melt. They get hot enough to lose their strength and when their structural strength is weakened from the heat they can no longer support the weight or forces they could at normal operating temperatures.
Anyone who doesn't believe the WTC towers fell because the steel beams were weakened by the burning jet fuel should find a secluded road and go as fast as you can for a few miles.
And if we never see you post here again, we'll assume you learned the truth the hard way.
