I get the impression [if Ive read it right] That the author is advocating that the industry is not as large and economically important as some might think. That theory might work on the grander scale but taking my city as an example, The defence industry is the biggest employer direct and indirectly. So in this example its an extremely important employer [boosting an otherwise subdued economy]
My employer has most certainly crossed into the civil sector we now on top of our Military obligations build Super Yachts, Trains, lifeboats amongst other things on a smaller scale.
The industry is struggling on the whole whilst technological advancements make the need for as many troops somewhat redundant, [in certain scenarios], But i feel the Labour government have took it to far with its so called "lean theory"
A leaner fitter service is the way they put it.
When in fact we just get a smaller poorly equipped fighting force.
