MANDATORY e-verification has been the key to the success of the new tough on illegals/tough on the employers of illegals laws in Arizona and Oklahoma. Without e-verification an employer has to accept the documents presented by a prospective employee, not knowing if the documents are real or forged. If an employee turns out to be illegal, the employer can always say that they didn't know that the employee was illegal. With MANDATORY e-verification the legal status of all empoyees must be checked. If an employer is caught hiring illegals, they can no longer say that they didn't know they were illegal. They're caught. If they're caught enough times they lose their business license. MANDATORY e-verification is the key.
