Bad Biscuit,
Two general philosophical points to consider and most definitely my last word on this issue:
1. The character and integrity of persons should not be determined solely on the basis of whether one agrees or disagrees with their political positions. I have close friends, some of whom are right-of-center and others who are left-of-center (conservative Republicans and liberal Democrats in the USA). In my opinion, they are of the highest character and integrity even if we don't always agree on the political questions of the day.
2. Absence of proof of a thing is not the same as proof of absence of that thing. Indeed, such confusion can make for a most treacherous assumption. For example, if one went to play a round of golf on the links and one proceeded through, let's say the first 9 holes, under deep blue skies, golden sunshine, and a gentle warm breeze, one might conclude that the fair weather was proof that there would be no weather-related disruptions. Yet, even as the links were bathed in benign conditions, a violent squall line could have been racing in the direction of the course at some 75 km per hour. Hence, things could become quite different 20-30 minutes later.
