Mar 24, 2008 8:00 Iraq War Protesters Disrupt Easter Mass In Chicago

CHICAGO (AP) ― Six Iraq war protesters disrupted an Easter Mass on Sunday, shouting and squirting fake blood on themselves and parishioners in a packed auditorium.

Three men and three women startled the crowd during Cardinal Francis George's homily, yelling "Even the Pope calls for peace" as they were removed from the Mass by security guards and ushers.

Nothing you can do about crazies.

This will get way worse before it gets any better.

There is plenty you can do about them......You don't coddle them and slap their wrists like they did the liberal in Vietnam..................Like I said you give them some hard jail time........

I can tell you I am a Roman Catholic and if they disrupted the Easter Mass I was at there would be hell to pay............

its one thing to protest, its another to interupt the one of the biggest celebrations in christianity. Doing that may help you lose support.

My history teacher was a bomber in vietnam, but anyways he told us that when he was returning home when he landed in Calafornia that coming out of the terminal there were a bunch of hippie protesters. So being idiots like they are one of them spit on a Marine. Lets just say the guards must of been on lunch break because it took them a while to stop the brawl.

"Lembcke, a professor of sociology at Holy Cross and a Vietnam vet, investigated hundreds of news accounts of antiwar activists spitting on vets. But every time he pushed for more evidence or corroboration from a witness, the story collapsed--the actual person who was spat on turned out to be a friend of a friend. Or somebody's uncle."

When I returned from my last deployment to Vietnam aboard USS SACRAMENTO (AOE-1) the captain announced when were leaving the ship that no one was to wear their uniforms off base......We found out why when we went out the gate.........There were the dirty hippie left wing protesters cussing at us and calling us baby killers.......We heard that was going on but we could not believe it.........I do believe had they spit on us that would have been the straw that broke the camels back though..........

I don't care what your links say it happened, not to me but to guys I knew.........

I can tell you I am a Roman Catholic and if they disrupted the Easter Mass I was at there would be hell to pay............

Is that because the institution of your religious dogma is more important to you than the actual teachings of Christ?

Just for general edification about the official Catholic Church's position on the war.

Catholic Just War Theory and Iraq

"the war was useless, and served no purpose,"

FOXNews.com - Vatican Strongly Opposes Iraq War - U.S. & World

"Pope John Paul II and top Vatican officials are unleashing a barrage of condemnations of a possible U.S. military strike on Iraq, calling it immoral, risky and a "crime against peace." "

The Catholic Church are not pacifists, but this one never met the test.

That's the concern I have with these people. I agree with what they're saying, not how they're saying it. It probably hurts their, and the anti-war, image.

That said, a creative form of protest is always interesting.

Interesting.

Well dang it, isn't this a dilemma for Navy! He's a staunch Catholic, and a war supporter.

Sounds kinda like those Fred Phelps whackos... but those guys aren't liberal.

But I do believe those folks should be cited and fined to the full extend of the law. I highly doubt the law would call for hard time though. But if it does, that's fine by me.

There is no excuse for that kind of disrespectful disruptive behavior in a house of worship. Like the church declared war on Iraq? They need to either take it to Washington or stuff a sock in it, IMO.

Hell to pay... hmmm... is that like two Our Fathers and a Hail Mary? What's the going rate these days? :2razz:

Sounds like they were arrested, huh? So that was pretty much taken care of? So then, what's the big f'n deal? Couple crazies got arrested, that's that. But the real problem is that you are trying to take this example and aggregate it over the whole of the anti-war movement. You want to condemn the whole lot of people who don't agree with you and you're trying to use this case of a couple crazies (who did get arrested and that seems to be the contention, so I don't even get your complaint) as a broad brush to paint the whole. It's ridiculous, and this is a non-issue. It was unfortunate and it was rude and those who did it were arrested for it.

Glad to see Christ's message go unheard.

One of the offenses brought against them was a felony, I doubt they'll get convicted on that. It doesn't seem like felonious behavior to me, so I hope not.

Their behavior wasn't in worshipful style, but the views expressed were in line with Catholic dogma. I understand the church's desire to keep their worship orderly, but considering that the views being expressed enjoyed papal blessing, I don't think they were totally out of place.

Some American Catholics have tried justify the war in opposition to the Vatican, so there is a debate to be had within the Catholic church here. I don't know that decorum must always be observed when lives are at stake.

I could imagine anti-abortion types making a similar bloody protest. I wouldn't support their views, but I think I'd also feel like it was a minor interruption that hardly merits a felony or jail time.

Like I said I am not perfect and when I see a bunch of left wingers disrupting a mass let alone the Easter Mass I get a little upset.........

You probably never heard the story about Jesus in the temple and how angry he got and what he did to the merchants bartering their wares there............

Not sure of that........There is a law called Felony trespass and it is a felony........

I don't know how old you are but this is exactly the same tactics that liberals used in heir Vietnam anti war protests............

I can't say I know the position of the Papacy has been on every war, but they do seem think that there is such a thing as a "just" war.

Terrorism and War: A Catholic Response

Maybe it's only in theory, but they don't reject all wars like pacifists.

Do you know anything about these people other than their stance on the Iraq war? If not, you could use the same standard to call the Pope a left winger.

You could also note a similarity with anti-abortion protesters that use fake blood and fetus's (sp?) to make their point.
